Off The Grid

Just letting everyone know that I will be off the grid. I gave my fitbits to my Daughter and Granddaughter, and am now using my Garmin fenix3 HR for all my activity tracking. So if you don't see any steps for me, don't worry. I am getting them in.

I will still be on the forums, just not in any challenges.

It’s a pity you’re not wearing them (Fitbit + Garmin) at the same time for a while. Would have been interesting to compare how they fare in terms of steps, calories, HR etc. But wait, the Garmin isn’t a 24/7 tracker, right?

Take a look at the Fitbit help site for further assistance and information.

Yes Garmin is 24/7.

I actually wore both for about a week and compared them pretty extensively.

Heart rate during workouts is very good. Either exact or 1 or 2 beats off. I also compared them to my Polar H7 chest strap monitor and they are very close on that front as well.

Resting heart rate is very close as well.

Steps are very close. not off by too much by the end of the day. I do think the fitbits over count steps a little though (maybe a couple hundred or so by the end of the day).

Calories burned is very close. Usually within 100 calories. Again, I think the fitbit over estimates the calories slightly.

Sleep is also very similar.

GPS. The Garmin has built in GPS with GLONASS, and is very accurate and consistant. The Blaze paired with my iPhone 7 (which also has GPS with GLONASS) is ussually within 1 tenth of a mile on walks that are 7+ miles on wooded trails. I think the phones GPS has a lot to do with how accurate the Blaze will perform in this area.

I have the Garmin fenix 3 HR which has a lot more advanced features, is water proof up to 100 meters, has many different workouts which can be customized, and can even be used for navigation. But it costs $600.00.
