Ok I bought a Surge, now what?

ANSWERED

Hi All, I am new to Fitbit and I'm hoping to learn a lot from all of you and to share in the community over time as my experience improves.

I bought a Suge a couple of weeks ago and have since been using it on a daily basis and learning how it works.

I gym frequently where I do weight lifting and various cardio execises that include treadmill running, spinning, rowing and elliptical walking. I also do mountain biking from time to time where I will be using the Surge GPS to track my rides, which is why I chose it over the Charge HR.

I am already very fit and well toned (Been gymming for over 4 years). Though I haven't measured my body fat percentage yet, it is definitely under 10%. (I estimate around 8%)

My goal is to be very fit, well built and well toned with a clearly visible 6 pack. To achive that, I still need to lose some additional belly fat and build more muscle while maintaining a very strict diet.(Which I already do, however I don't count calories because I don't know how to accurately determine the caloreis of all my meals)

So far, I am well on my way towards that goal however, I need some help to impove the focus of my exercises in order to optimize my workouts. I'm hoping that my fitbit will help me with that.

I have never been very good at intrepeting data and utilizing that information to my benefit.

At this stage, I have the various graphs and information that my surge has collected but really, I don't know how to use that infomation in a useful way.

So my question to all of you that have been using Fitbit for a while is, how do I take the information presented to me and utilize it to improve my fitness and optimize workouts in such a way tha it will really benefit me?

Please assist me with some guidance on how to utlize the info that my Surge collects.

Thank you,

I do not have a Surge (I am a Flex user) but the features I've seen capable are impressive. My suggestion and this is from personal experience. If you are wanting to maximize the benefits of your tracker with use of calorie tracking, do not follow Fitbit's calorie goal suggestions. It was having me eat less than 1000 calories a day because of my "projected burn". I sync My Fitness Pal with Fitbit and only log in MFP. It automatically updates in Fitbit. Both devices will give you an estimated calorie burned if you log excercise. But MFP will take into account the Fitbit steps and activity measured and adjust your calorie burn.

Look at your graphs that your Surge has already displayed and go from there. What's the average calorie burn daily you are acheiving? Are you wanting to drop weight or just tone? Someone like me who is using Fitbit for a high weight loss goal and someone who just wants a few pounds to drop off and tone up have very different needs with Fitbit. Definitely take advantage of the step & activity tracking, and the calorie counting! It's pretty amazing how many varieties of foods are available in the database. I haven't had one time where I couldn't find the food I needed to log in the database.

Good luck!
