Over recording distance ran

My Fitbit seems to indicate more distance than it should. Driving a route in my car measures 3.6 miles and Fitbit is showing 4.3. That is a fairly significant difference.

Have you measured your stride and entered it in your profile? That could cause a problem. How do you know the car is correct? If measured stride is in profile, I would go to a local school or someplace with a 1/4 mile track or 100 yard football field (or soccer field whatever you have where you are) and use that to determine a known distance to compare to instead of the car.

Good Luck

Sounds like you need to change the length of your stride under settings.  The default might be a little more than what you actual do.  I measure out 30 feet, walk it and run it, count your steps, and calculate your stride.  Good run!

Beyond the commented high school track, got a treadmill available?

Set to 3.5 mph if you can walk that fast.

Walk until it rolls to 0.4 mile, and now count every right foot landing until it hits 0.5 mile.

Double your count for strides.

528 ft / strides = stride length in feet, convert to feet & inches as needed.

Do the same for running at normal pace.

Just confirm you are already moving when you start counting, short distance and starting to count as you start walking are inaccurate, and if going to correct it, might as well get best estimate.
