While on the treadmill, the counter is not counting the same as the treadmill. Can it be worn on my ankle?

I wear it on my non-dominant wrist and I don't think it can be worn on the ankle and log correctly.

Do you have the type you wear on your wrist, and are you holding on to the treadmill when you walk or run?
If your arm isn't moving, it won't count your steps. The same thing happens at the grocery store when you're pushing a cart or if you're holding someone's hand.
You could probably wear it on your ankle, but you would get a better workout if you made sure your hands and arms were moving freely.

Even if you do wear it on your ankle it will still not be accurate. The stride is different

If the distance is wrong - 2 possible reasons - you get to figure out which one.
1 - It's not counting your steps correctly.
So look at device and current steps.
Walk or jog in normal manner counting 50 right foot steps (100 total steps).
Stop and look at device and current steps.
Right about 50 seen?
This can be effected by the device and where you have it. You failed to mention which of the many devices you actually use - so kind makes a difference.
But if wrist based and you death grip the rail, sure impact seen can be off.
2 - It's not getting your distance right.
Start a workout record and walk a known distance on treadmill, stop record and see what it says the distance was.
Should be about the same.
This can be effected by stride length being wrong.
Now - you don't want it set to exercise level walking, but also not grocery shopping walking pace - somewhere in the middle, leaning towards whichever activity gets more steps for your day.
And forget ankle unless running, otherwise only the impact of that ankle coming down is really seen well, and that means 1/2 the steps really taken is using for calculations - so talk about wrong values then!

I have the Fitbit Flex. Example tonight at the last minute i'm trying to get the steps in by doing laps around in our lab....it says 9,996 while i do the lab 2 times and then changed to 10,009. I know the laps are more than 13 steps lol. Wore on my non-dominate hand, arms both swinging. Any ideas?
