Post Polio Pacing

As a child I had Polio.

Polio leaves behind symptoms that are physical, such as muscle loss.

There is also fitness challenges, because of Post Polio Syndrome (PPS).

PPS means that the polio virus has had a impact on your body, so some of the fitness training techniques need to be changed and fitness pacing is a critical success factor in maintaining good fitness.

Below is a guidance on PPS management.

@leear Thanks so much for sharing your story and for the information you included. Are you still using a Fitbit tracker? I would appreciate very much if you could share some experiences you have had with your tracker. Robot wink

I wish you the best!

Yes I've been using my ultra daily for two and a half years and it's still holding out well 🙂

I've written a paper on my pacing using my fitbit, but it has not been published yet. I guess it's too much like an advert for fitbit, and its about a fitbit device that is no longer available

I'm suprised no one is doing research into this aspect as every country has Post Polio Syndrome people.

In the UK we have 120,000 and in the USA, it's 1,000,000 including some very well known people such as Neil Young. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_poliomyelitis_survivors

Well, the information you provided is very interesting and I would love for you to share more so we can all get a better understanding about this syndrome and how your experience can help others seeking advice on our Fitbit community.

When I started this thread and topic, back in early July 2014, I also set up a fitbit "Post Polio Pacing (PPP)" Group for Polio survivors, that have a Fitbit. Smiley Happy

The post polio pacing group link is https://www.fitbit.com/group/22N4S9

Currretly I'm the only person, in the group, I guess it just may need some awareness rising across the intrnational post-polio communities and any fitbit users?

Thank you for the link @leear! I joined the group so I can refer people to it in case they want to join or get more information about it.

I appreciate your efforts and interest to get more people, like myself, to get informed about this symptom and great work on creating this group.

Keep on doing a fantastic job! Smiley Happy
