Questions about stride

I have been noticing that my calculations seem off. As I was searching, I read that it was important to have your stride entered correctly in your settings. When I went into my settings, my stride was set at 0 ft 0 in. I did a stride calculator and learned it was about 28-30 inches.

Why was my default at 0? How is this even possible?? And does 28-30 sounds about right for someone 5'6"? And lastly, could this have been affecting my numbers all along? I feel that it worked great for the first 6 months or so but has lately been giving me less steps, distance and calorie deficit than it did before with the same exact routine, time, etc.

Thanks!!

I'm 5'6" as well, and my legs are pretty long.  My walking stride is set for 30" and seems fairly accurate.  GPS is pretty close to what my Fitbit says I walked.  I changed it a while back because they were so different, but now they match.

Thank you! It seems if I am walking 2.5 I am at 28 and if 3.0 I am at 30. I too have long legs (short torso).

The weird thing is that my walking stride is 30", but my running stride is 24" - 6 inches shorter.

Did I mention I run really slow? Woman Embarassed

Fitbit can't know your stride length when not entering it manually.

Standard it's set to 0, though fitbit then uses a average stride length..
