I just got the ionic and started being active, but my heart rate is very high. My RHR says it's 70 bpm, but I think the fitbit figures that out while you are asleep. However, I take adderall during the day, which raises my heart rate significantly. Normally it hovers at around 85, but I've seen it go into the mid-90s. My question: do you think my increased heart rate due to the adderall affects my heart rate zones? For example, when I walk I can easily get into the fat burn zone (starts at 101 bpm). Am I actually in this zone or should it start higher because of my elevated heart rate?
Sorry if this question doesn't make sense. I just want to know if I'm actually in fat burn zone if I'm not exercising (and just walking to the other side of the room).

Hi @cd88,
A lot of things, including medication, can affect and elevate the resting heart rate. Fitbit looks at your heart rate during the night and day to determine the resting rate, so it seems reasonable that your situation would have an increased RHR. Obviously, your doctor is the best decider of what's normal for you, and I would want their input on how vigorous to exercise given your medication.
Regardless of its cause, when you are in the fat burn zone, you are burning those calories. It doesn't matter so much from walking around or standing. The heart is working, and the calories are burning. It took me some time to realize that.
It's good to get some time in the cardio zone also, as it burns more calories and can help lead to a lower RHR.

Hello, I also take adderall and I noticed that for me, on days when I don’t take it, my RHR is lower.

We have fun times with our GP's. My annual checkup today and all was OK.
When he checked my BP he had a whimsical look on his face and as the machine was working he placed his finger on my other wrist.. He did not believe the machine because my physical pulse was running (dawdling) at 49bpm...Typical for me.. My Ionic said 49 as well... So he was happy..
I'm genetically pre-hypertension and today's reading was 130/69 and for my age he is happy with that...
So we chatted about genes, and my GP has all of his father's health traits.. Cholesterol, High BP and pre diabetic 2... so he said I have nothing the complain about.
