Resting Heart Rate

Does anyone know how Fitbit calculates resting heart rate? It's always said my resting heart rate is about 62-65bpm. However, most of the time when I'm sitting, it is MUCH lower than that. This snapshot is from this morning when I was laying in bed. I can understand being slightly off, but this seems to be very extreme.

How is my resting heart rate so much higher than my heart rate when I am awake and sitting?

Pretty sure your "resting" heart rate is your heart rate while you sleep. My "resting" heartrate is 51, however when I'm just sitting around doing nothing it'll drop down to 45 or so.

Hi @yayuhz & @FlashAM7,

Fitbit calculates resting heart rate by measuring your heart rate when it detects sleep, and by measuring it throughout the day while you are awake but inactive (no steps detected).  Because resting heart rate includes awake time during the day and night, it can be higher or lower than what your current heart rate is at any given moment.
