Running on tread mill after ankle injury

I started running on tread mill two months ago. I did 30 minutes in the morning almost every day which increased my cardio score to a good number. I almost got addicted to running in the morning. Unfortunately, I severely injured my ankle ligament two weeks back while climbing down stairs. I'm still recovering and the swelling has not subsided yet. Doctor has advised me not to drive car at least till end of December. How long do you think before I can run on tread mill again? I'm 34 m.

Has anyone been through this before? Will the pain come back (once it goes) if I stress my ankle too much?

@MadBit Sorry to hear about your injury.  You'll need to talk to your doctor about when you can run again.  We are not able to give medical advice and we know nothing about your injury.  Please seek proper guidance from your doctor.

Thanks FB. Sorry, I should have been clearer. I'm consulting my doctore and taking his advice. What I'm looking for is similar stories from fellow Fitbiters (may be for motivation). What it is like to start again and how they are improving and the like.

Hello @MadBit, I can relate to this situation. It all depends on the severity of the injury.

@Heather-S thanks, great advice.

I suffered what is called a 2nd grade injury on my left ankle. It took me 8 months to be fully active again. Right now, I am painless and playing tennis and soccer every weekend. Pain did not come back at all, but I do recommend waiting what the doctor suggested and even some time more.

I did the following to test the strength on my ankle after three months into the injury. Try to stretch it as far as you can, up and down. You will see progress each week. Please do consult this with your doctor.

I wish you a speedy recovery. All the best.
