Share how you get your 15,000 + steps every day??

I just thought it would be fun and interesting to see how everyone gets 15,000 or more steps in daily? My goal is set at 8,000 and most days I get between 10-12,000 steps. I do walk 30min every morning and most days I also do 30 min aerobics routine in the evening as well as if the weather is nice I go and walk 30-45 min on my lunch break. I was just curious if its your job and what you do that helps you be so active or if you do a set amount time of exercise daily.

I start the day with a 10,000 step walk. The rest of the day, I don't strive to get extra steps, but they seem to come.

I recently had my 4th Fitbit anniversary. During that time, I’ve averaged 18k steps per day. Since I have a deskjob, I’ve had to set a certain amount of time for stepping activities. Brisk walking gets me about 125 steps per minute. This is 7500 steps per hour. I’d therefore need a couple of hours to reach 15k (the rest I would get from just moving around during the day). My stepping is split between walking and running, maybe 85%-15%. Because of the running, I’d get the 15k with less than two hours. For the past two years, I’ve also dedicated a significant amount of time (about 45 minutes per day in average) to strength training. This doesn’t get me a lot of steps.

I dedicate 90 minutes to walking 5/6 out of 7 days. That usually gets me to a tiny bit shy of 14 and the rest I do as I move around the house etc. I need those 90 minutes- its my soul searching time the steps are a bonus.

I have a job that is about 12-14 hours a day behind a computer.  Getting a Fitbit really made me realize just how much I sit.  At first I struggled to get my steps in, but quickly realized that if I didn't need to be typing I could be walking.

Luckily I work from home.  Throughout the day I pace my house, walk laps around my pool and/or block while on conference calls that don't require my computer.  I actually think more clearly and pay more attention when I am walking as well.  That alone tripled my steps.

I have a son that is conditioning as he is joining the Army and will be going Airborne.  So in the evening I walk or run with him per his request and that simply adds to it.  One day a week he has PT with the Army as part of a future soldiers program and I simply walk the track while they do their thing for an hour or two.  On those days I get plenty of steps in.

I don't do 15k daily.

I've just looked at my badges.

In my 108 days of being a Fitbitter, I've hit 10k 100 times and 15k 48 times. The others are in declining numbers up to my pinnacle of 35k which I've hit just once (so far!).

For me, the quality of the steps is as important as the number. Yesterday was a 22k day which included a wonderfully relaxing, long, slow coastal and cliff walk with my dog. It was a really great few hours of peace and tranquility.

Tuesday was only a 12k day, but it was just as rewarding as yesterday. It included a really good run of 4.5 miles in 50 minutes. Not a world record, but for an obese bloke in his mid-forties, a real achievement. It was one of those runs where everything just feels right. It wasn't effortless, but neither was it a struggle. It was just satisfying in every way.

The difference between the days might've been 10,000 steps, but the value to my wellbeing of the steps on those days was equal.

I'm trying to improve my physical fitness and my wellbeing in tandem. Enjoying my activity is just as important in that endeavour as the quantity of my activity.

I'm good at getting 10,000+ steps on weekdays; weekends not so much. I normally start with about 25 minutes of walking videos, usually Leslie Sansone. That, plus puttering around my apartment getting ready, gets me around 3,000 steps.

I use public transit to get to work, but the first stop is close to my apartment building. I transfer buses, so I get off one stop early and walk to the park where I catch my second bus. If I time it right, I will walk around the sidewalks and get another thousand or so steps in.

I do a bit of running around at work, but not enough to get many steps in. So I make sure I take a walk every hour when my Alta reminds me. Once or twice a week I go to get lunch, and that gets me about 1,000 steps.

I also get off a stop early changing buses when I'm coming back from work, which gets me maybe 500 steps. Most days I hit my 10,000 at that point.

I'm trying to get in the habit of taking a walk in the park once or twice a week. One "lap" will get me about 1,000 steps, and I try to go for three or four laps. In the winter, I want to go to my building's fitness center and do about 20 minutes on the treadmill.

Between October and April (and hopefully into June), I got to hockey games pretty regularly, and for some reason clapping my hands counts steps. When doors open, I walk around the concourse before going to my seat and use the restroom during TV timeouts and intermissions. (Luckily, the women's restroom is right outside my section so I can run to the restroom, do my business, and get back before the puck drops again.) And then we normally walk four blocks to get a bus or Uber/Lyft to get home.

I try to do at least 5000 before leaving for work in the mornings.  I can easily knock off 5000 on a slow day, and close to 10000 on a busy day. Then I'll make a point to finish up where I am once I get home.

I have only done 15,000 steps once. I work behind a computer during the week and find it really hard to get away from my desk. I go out at lunch but need to get back to eat my lunch before I start work again.

At the weekends, I do a lot of walking with my son. However, he is 15 months and has been walking for 8 weeks now so when he is out with me, I don't get very far or have as many steps unless my hubby is with me.

To originally get to the 15,000 steps I started doing 250 steps each hour I was awake.  Then I increased it to 500 steps each hour.  The next step was to get 1000 steps each hour (just easier to keep track).
