Shouild I buy a Fitbit One

ANSWERED

I am considering buying a Fitbit One. It seems like just the kind of fitness tracker that I would like. Two of my principle exercise activities are weight training and cycling (done mostly on a stationary exercise bike). Will the One be able to accurately track my caloric expenditure when I do these activities?

No. It needs to be Step Based to count steps.

Weight training needs to be manually logged

The Bike will pick up some steps but it wont be accurate. Some people wear it on their shoe to get the steps. Some in their front Pocket.

I use a Heart Rate Monitor  as well for the things you described. Polar is a good model.

Fitbit I use for  Steps

I love my Fitbit One, but I should say that it won't track the particular activities you listed well (nor would many activity trackers). The reason is because Fibit's calorie burn, intensity rating, steps, etc are calibrated for step-like (or step translatable) movements. The calorie burn is based on how much and how fast you move each minute (and some other factors). It doesn't do as well with resistance oriented or non-steplike activities. Some users do report being happy with their results in wearing the one on their sock while cycling--but I am not sure whether any of them are actually using the calorie burn estimate vs just getting credit for moving. In case you are interested, I did recently post a detailed review of the Fitbit One on my blog. I've been using a Fitbit for about four years. I find it easy to manually log the activities it cannot track, so it still may be a good fit depending on your interests. I have gone through all the steps to get my Fitbit to work again but all it will do is tell me calories burned. I'm frustrasted and about ready to throw out this thing. I think fitbit company wanted this to happen after a year of use so you have to buy another newer model.
