Should I activate the time counter when I go walking?

ANSWERED
I try to walk at least 2 miles a day on the days I'm not at work..the days I work (nurse) I easily get in 10 to 11 thousand steps in a 12 hour shift. But on my off days I may hit 5,000. When I do go for my long, brisk walk should I activate the timer or leave the Charge alone and just go by the steps it counts?

Yes you should. By using the timer, your walk will appear as a separate event on your Activity log. Not only will this offer better insights as to how well you did during your walk, but if you do the same walk on a regular basis, you will also be able to compare your performance improvements over time. That, to me, is the main advantage of using the Timer to capture a walk or jog workout. Hope this helps. Have a nice day.

Activating the timer will not affect your step count in any way. All it does is isolate the activity in question and give you stats about it. For instance, you will be able to see how many calories you burned during that particular activity.

Absolutely!   I put on the timer for every class I take at the gym.  This gives me lots of information including when I'm in "fat burning" zone, peaking, calories etc.  Great tool!

I believe you should always activate the timer when you do anything over and above your normal routine. That way you can account for the time you have made the effort to do that little bit of extra effort towards your personal goals. You can then look back in retrospect and see how much effort you have put in.

My biggest problem though is remembering to start the timer in the first instance and then stopping it at the end of a walk but that's just me.

@Christat - I agree with you for step-based activities. But for other activities, I prefer to set the One aside and log manually instead. The reason for this is that the One would otherwise log a mix of false and true steps, a mix that would throw a monkey wrench into my true step stats.
