Should I change my goals, for example steps, if I only hit it once a week?

I only am making the goal of 10000 steps about once a week.  Should I lower the goal or wait for Spring and hope that gets me moving more?

I wouldn't lower it. I personally am a great procrastinator and if I lowered my goal now I would be less likely to raise it come spring. My family and I have been going to the mall, grocery store ect. to stay warm and still get our steps in. My advice would be to go somewhere close to your home and walk there with someone else. Then when it gets nice out walk together outside.

Everyone is different in terms of what truly motivates them. For some its meeting or exceeding a goal, even if its modest. For others its having a difficult goal to stive for.....'didn't make it today, but I will tomorrow'.

You have to decide what camp you are in.  It might be the way forward is to aim for a lesser number of steps and feel good that you meet this goal, rather than be disheartened by not meeting a goal day after day.   But ..... and there is always a but..... and I ask this with the best possible intention, could it be a case that you are looking for an excuse/reason not to try harder?  There is no reason not to walk on the spot indoors, or go find some stairs to walk up and down.  You may be using 'wait until Spring' as a crutch, and come Spring you might be tempted to say 'too much pollen, too many insects, I'll wait until....'

Its not for me, or anyone else to say which its is.....its your call and up to you to decide how important your goals are to you.

It does depend on the person.

What I do is do a week average of "normal" activity then add 1000 to it. for my goal.

once I do this all week once or twice I up the goal another 1000 I ahve a feeling due to the winter I will not make that goal as much. so it will take me longer to put the 10,000 and that's my over all goal. But my mini goal is 6000 right now. i feel better about myself when I see more green it helps me move more.

I would only lower your goal if you are getting so frustrated that you are going to just give up.  If then, make a reasonable goal that pushes you but that is also attainable.  When you reach that goal consistently, make a new goal that pushes you again.

Do what works for you.  If missing a goal makes you feel like a failure and demotivates you, lower your goal to something you'll usually hit.  It's not much use having that 10,000 goal sitting there if you see it as impossible so you don't strive to make it.  You'd be much better off making a reasonable, achievable goal IF you will move more due to lowering it.

I wouldn't lower your goal unless your frustrated...but start adding in steps where you can. Park as far away as you can when you go to the store and walk. When you are folding laundry fold one piece then go put it away and then go back and folder another. You can get your steps in! 🙂
