Some advice needed for two newbies!

ANSWERED

Hi all,

First of all I'd like to say this post is for both me and my girlfriend, it's the first time any of us have been serious about getting fit, motivation is there now we're both going to have this journey together and that we have a way of quantifying it.  We knew there would have to be a real conversation with this kind of thing and there is a necessary evil in having to weigh ourselves to realise what our goals will have to be. I'd like some advice though on how we're best starting off before our Fitbit One's arrive, particulary in the sense that our goals differ; she wants to lose weight (2 stone/28 pounds), I'd like to lose my belly fat and put on muscle (6 pounds).  We don't go to the gym and for the forseable future don't intend to, however we have various equipment at the home which was purchased and never used.  I appreciate my exersizes and diet will have to somewhat differ, but I hope we can go with the flow on that one where I have a high protein intake during my lunch at work and do weight training, where she'll have to focus on the carb/fat intake.  We've been using MyFitnessPal for the food over the past week and it's really opening our eyes on the rubbish we were eating before.

In a nutshell then:-

- Does anyone have any advice on how we can effectively work together on this?
- What exersizes can we do at home together that would go towards both of our goals?
- Similarily, what foods would adhere to both our goals?

P.S
We're both in the UK and Fitbit doesn't seem to have most of the foods whereas MyFitnessPal does. Do people prodominately use just the Fitbit app or a bit of both?

Thanks all! 🙂

You could walk together for Cardio

You both need strenth training.

You can eat just about anything. Just cut down on the Fats. I think its important to meausre at first so you get a feel for what really is a portion size.

Look for recipes you both like

You can link my fitnesspal to your fitbit account and keep logging the foods in mfp but will be seen on your fitbit dashboard.  Walking is a great way you both can exercises together.  Try and set a goal of 10k steps per day.  I am doing a low carb high fat diet and has helped me stabilize my blood sugar as well as loose a few lbs and reduce my BMI.  Do some research on low carb high fat diets and see what you both think.   Good luck and have fun getting healthy.

I believe working out with your partner is a great way to bond and make the weightloss journey a bit smoother. Why not walking together? Picking up a sport together? Log recipes for both of you over at MFP? You can also check exercise programs over at http://www.fitstar.com/

Perfect, thanks for all your advice. Our fitbits arrived yesterday and we're both cutting down on carbs and will be going on long walks together. Luckily we're in an ideal place for it, there are 2 parks about 2 miles away and a fair few hiking trails a little further out we can utilize. Our journey starts now!
