The only time I did a Cardio Warmup was when I had a trainer.

I also dont see alot of others warming up either.

Ok I did some reading and I guess most say you should

A cardio warm up will get your blood flowing ,maximize your workout and minimize the pain afterward. It's a good thing to do.  Smiley Happy

I always do cardio before I do my strength training. As another poster said, it gets your heart rate up, warms up your muscles, will help avoid injury, and will help boost your metabolism. Its also good for stamina. I would recommend doing some, probably at least 10 minutes, before you start your strength workout. If you enjoy it, feel free to add more. I do at least 20-30 on the eliptical depending on how long I have to work out, and if I have longer, I also do 10-15 on the bike, but that's just me and I enjoy it.

Good luck!

I agree. My typical routine on a weigh-lifting day is to do the Warm Up program on the stationary bike. This is a 7 minute program that progressively gets more difficult as the time ticks on. By the end of the 7 minutes, heart rate is up and I am just barely breaking a sweat.

Then I hit the weights for whatever muscle groups I am working that day.

Then I hit the bike again for a 15-40 minute finisher depending on how much time I have.

I never do strength training without first warming up with a 7-10 min cardio, with a focus on the muscle group(s) I intend to work. So if I'm planning a leg strengthening workout for example, my warm-up will definitely include burpees and lunges ... I am not a big fan of elliptical and treadmill use for this purpose. I think you're better off with targeted moves instead.

I do something to get my body warm - walking, usually.  How do I know when I am warmed up enough?  I walk into the studio freezing and by the time the air feels warm, I know I have warmed up enough lol.  Then I do warm-up lifts with progressive weight before doing the planned set.  I save the actual "cardio" for after - these days 15 or 20 minutes of intervals followed by a couple of miles of walking.

Why not just warm up doing whatever wt training exercises you're going to do, just use very light weight?  You could also do a few circuits of body weight exercises for a warm up.
