The dangers of being sedentary....

I had been debating the idea of purchasing the Premium tools for the past few days. As I was checking them out, I noticed that I still had a free report that I could export. This was part of the one free week that is offered, but I never took advantage of it. There was one column in the report that basically screamed at me. That column had to do with the number of minutes that I was sedentary each day. Before that, I felt that I was doing well with my activity level and work outs. However, over the past month or so, I have been reading report after report which states that even people who work out for 30-60 minutes daily can still experience significant health risks if they are sedentary for the rest of their waking hours. Sitting basically brings our fat burning enzymes and calorie burning to a screeching halt. It also raises our blood sugar and puts us at risk for heart disease and certain forms of cancer, just for starters. So because of those reasons, I took the plunge and ordered a Premium membership for one year. I had to stand up and walk across the room to get the credit card, so I guess it is already starting to do its job! Woman Very Happy You can be sure I will be setting goals to see the number of sedentary minutes go down each day/week!!

Yes, the dangers of sitting are well-known:

Some competing trackers include a warning (vibrating) when you have been sedentary for too long. I think such a proactive reminder would be a welcome addition to those Fitbit trackers than can vibrate (which is most of them).

@mbailey18Now that you are committed for a year with Premium if you don't log your sleep your sedentary goes through the air because it will include the sleep minutes  as sedentary for a total of 1,440 minutes in the day.

I use one Fitbit for my sleep and then manually log my sleep into the Fitbit One. I don't always check my sleep so I have been in the habit of logging it manually.

Enjoy your Premium as I have.
