When I start a hike, is there a way on Charge 3 to have it measure just the steps for that hike?  Like a stop watch (start/stop) or a Trip Odometer in a car.

You can use the exercise function .

but there are 6 types of exercises , standard on Fitbit charge 3 .

you must go in the Fitbit app , and load the hiking exercise first .
