Under the Desk Pedal Bike/Elliptical - How to Log/Use

I am looking into getting an under the desk pedal bike/elliptical (whatever you want to call it), however, I am unsure how this would be logged. Obviously, it is not the same as walking but would this be counted steps? Or would it be better to log it as biking? I see it more as a bike than I do an elliptical but wanted to see others opinions on how they would categorize and log this type of activity. Also asking because while I would love to get a $100-$300 version of these machines that would help calculate the calories, distance, and such, I cannot afford one of those so I would be buying one without all the fancy features.

Appreciate the help!

Hi @KenzieK78 Welcome to the forum. I would log it as a bike. A friends puts her Fitbit on her show when using her desk pedal bike, so it registers as steps, so that is also an option for you. It depends on how important heart rate is for you if you want to put you Fitbit on your shoe. Are steps top priority or is tracking your activity? I hope that helps.

After using fitbit for years i find that many people are too hung up on steps and logging activities. The most important thing is heart rate and calories burned.

I ride an air resistance bike an hr a day and it does show time and calories burned but the fitbit measures heart rate and calories burned so i could live with that.

I wouldn't bother buying a more expensive bike.Just  use your fitbit calories and heartrate and see your cardio health go up in the dashboard and watch your resting heart rate go down over time.

While i am riding, my fitbit shows what range of heartrate i am in whether it be fat burning or higher so i know i am doing some good.

hey @KenzieK78 .. if you are not actually walking, your fitbit won't register steps. on the elliptical an up and down counts as one step. the bike does not register steps at all, unless as Marci suggests you put it on your ankle. I think it will be up to you as far as what your priority is... calories, steps or just knowing that you are doing something other than sitting.. whatever you decide, kudos to you for stepping...
