So since it's been really hot out lately, I've been playing Just Dance 4 for my cardio. I'm using Kinect and I've played it enough times that I've gotten fairly good at the moves. (Not Beyonce good, but...y'know, good. Like I'm not just waving my arms around like a madman anymore.) I usually play for about 45~ minutes and I always work up a good sweat, but what I'm curious about it the calorie burn.
The game itself says I burned about 106 calories (based on the session I just had) but my fitbit is clocking me down at around 800 calories. The difference being that the game bases calories burned off of a pre-set body weight and type and I'm about 280lbs right now.
My FB is also saying I clocked around 3000~ steps which, considering I was dancing and waving my body around could be about right, and with the added movements It might be possible to burn that much in that amount of time considering my size.
But In comparison to my 1 hr walks. I burn more calories, take less steps, finish in less time and have a higher heart rate when I just dance (pun intended)
So anyway, I'm just wondering what people's thoughts on this might be. Here's a side by side comparion of this session versus my typical walking session.
Dance session: 3,700 Steps, ( 1.8 Miles) 51 Min Duration, 803 Calories, 125 BPM avg
Walking Session: 4606 steps, 2.3 miles, 1 hr duration, 685 calories, 104bpm avg
Other stats: 23 y/o M, 280 lbs, 6'1
I'm just curious if this sounds right to anyone or if it sounds like my fitbit might be overestimating for me or something. Thanks!

I think it's good, both to mix it up and keep your motiviation fresh. AND having done lots of the JD 1-4 and 2015 with the kids, can really work your shoulders, balance and core by doing other things beyond just walking and counting your steps.
Not too sure about comparing the total calories or steps taken computed between the game and the fitbit. You should burn more as doing the JD you're using your whole body moreso than even a power walk. You're right though that it will get your heart rate going and maybe PUSH you harder than you might push yourself with just fitness walking. The JD routines give you someone to workout with and keep up with!
Good for you to come up with alternatives when the weather doesn't cooperate. Too hot, rain, wintertime, we all need alternatives and options.
