I went on a bike ride yesterday for almost four hours -- 24.09 miles. I started tracking my excercise on both my Versa and my Iphone. At the end of the ride, it did record the bike ride (twice actually with two different sets of information); but, it only recorded 4,000 +/- steps. Any other bike ride I have done, it has always added steps also. I had read that typically, you allow for -- I think -- 2400 steps per mile when biking? And, there is no way to manually add those steps so that your weekly report is accurate? I have often had days on that report that show 0 information. It's frustrating.

Hi @MariGreenFit Fitbits do not add steps for biking. The steps that show on the watch are accidental 'steps'. Basically they shouldn't be recorded when you ride as you don't step, but when you go over a bump the watch will interpret this as a step. I have done a lot of cycling using my Fitbits and the rougher the ride AND the harder my tyres are, the more 'steps' are recorded. If you want to measure each pedal rotation as a step (but be aware it actually isn't a step) then you need to wear it on your ankle. The figure you quote - allowing 2400 steps per mile biking - is a vague way of equating energy spent cycling with energy spent stepping. It is not the same thing and it is not an exact equivalent energy wise. The energy used depends very much on the type of cycling you do, the road conditions, wind, terrain etc etc. I am not sure why people want to 'convert' cycling to steps. It just doesn't make sense to me.
