Walk vs Hike distance variation

I went for a hike today, and used the Fitbit Charge 2 or 3.  As I started the hike, I started a walk activity on my Fitbit.  It auto-detected hike (I was also using the Nike Run Club and Strava apps). For Strava I also had hike as the activity.  Basically the "walks" recorded 9-10km and the "hikes" recorded 19-20kms. I was wondering if any one you had an explanation as to why that is.

Thank you in advance!

Hi @SunsetRunner I'm wondering if its how your stride is measured and thus calculating the distance. Your stride length on a walk should be fairly consistent, where as your stride on a hike will vary over different terrain, thus if you are tracking an actual hike as walking your distance will not be accurate. Hope that helps.
