Walking 10k

So, I walk every single morning for an hour and a half (which is roughly 10k for me) . When I log it without a fitbit, it says I have only burned around 250 calories with all that walking

On Average, it takes me about 7-8 minutes to walk 1,000 steps, so i walk pretty fast.

On days I am wearing my fitbit ( I have my phone in my back pocket), it says I burn much more than that throughout the day walking 10k, rather than getting my 10k all at once .

Help...? Which one is right? 250 seems WAY too little burned for all that work I put into walking 10k .

I am 15 years old, 99-100 lbs and 5 foot.

When I walk my 10k, I am sweating, burning up, and my heart rate is high. I must be doing something

250 sounds correct for a small person. The fitbit calculates your calories burned throughout the day regardless if you move or not. The calculation is based on your age, heart rate, and weight. When you take your early walk, you are burning them faster.

For example, if you wear your fitbit and stay in bed all day, you'll burn 1000+ calories doing nothing.

what kind of tracker do you have? Is it one with HR? Walking isn't a high impact activity and based on your size, it is probably pretty accurate. Your age though could be upping it a bit in reality because as a young person you tend to burn through calories faster. I am not sure if this was part of your question, but if you walk your 10K in the morning and then sit for the rest of the day- you aren't going to get a high calorie burn for the day as a whole. I do 4K steps in the morning and then I do 10-11K in the evening- on average I burn through 1900 calories for the day. If I do my steps in the morning ( mix of run and walk) then go shopping, or clean or out for the day- by the end of the day I am 2300 calories burned. The more you move through out the day, the higher your calories will be- It's obvious I know.. just thought I would mention.

Walking 10k steps at a pace of 16-18 minute miles isn't going to burn a whole lot of calories and I would consider to be on the low end of active.

If caloric burn and getting in shape is your goal, you need to work on your conditioning so you can up the activity and get more bang for your buck (a jog or run of this distance can double or triple your burn) so you can do more in less time.

The great thing is that you are taking a long walk every morning!  That sort of discipline is a great way to start your day!  It's also important to get up and move around a little bit every hour.  Congratulations on what you're already accomplishing everyday.  I, for one, am impressed!

Couple of questions

10,000 steps or 10,000metres?

Do you have a wrist fitbit, or are you just using the app and a step counter on your phone?

10,000 steps in 90 minutes is a moderate paced walk, I'd expect to burn a lot more calories than 250, maybe 500, but I'm twice your weight.

10,000 metres in 90 minutes is a pretty respectable jog, maybe 750 cal for me.

If you are walking for 90 minutes, using your phone to count steps, well, I wouldn't put much faith in the results.

There is a rough rule of thumb that says a mile is roughly 60-120 calories whether you walk it or run it (exact burn obv depends on the person). You would be toward the lower end of that scale as a smaller person - using 60 calories per mile for 6.2 miles (10k) the burn is around 372 calories, so I do think the fitbit is being a bit stingy.

when i'm referring to 10k i'm referring to 10 kilometres not 10,000 steps by the way. if it's 10,000 steps then the fitbit's calculation is likely accurate due to the reasons people have given upthread

You are comparing apples to oranges.  The reason 10k (whether steps or km) ‘throughout the day’ seems to burn more than 10k ‘all at once’ is because the all day calorie count includes 24 hours of BMR calories (the calories you burn just to stay alive by breathing, digesting food, making and replacing cells, pumping blood and so on).  BMR typically accounts for at least 70% of the calories you burn each day.
