A few months ago, I mentioned I had been swimming in a nearby lake all Autumn, up to mid-December, when it was starting to freeze. Well, now that same lake is covered by a thick layer of ice and I’ve been walking on it:
It’s a fun experience. Is anyone else living in cold climate areas doing the same? I’m not using snow shoes (no need for them, as lakes are currently covered by ice, not snow), but I have shoes with metallic spikes under them.
I’m been toying with the idea of trying tour skating, but I don’t have the necessary equipment and I’m not sure conditions for it would be adequate in my area often enough during a typical winter for the investment to make sense. Same question: is anyone doing it?

I'm definitely not anywhere cold enough where a frozen lake could happen, but it's very cool @Dominique !

@WendyB : I’ll start to plan tour skating for next winter! With climate change, it’s already starting to feel like Spring over here (no longer freezing), even though February is supposed to be the coldest month of the year. I also need to find a partner to do it with me. All the recommendations I see is to never do it alone, for safety reasons. Now I’ll be waiting for the ice to melt, so I can resume cold water swimming .

Sounds great. The only ice i get to walk on is black ice and white ice on city sidewalks and crosswalks which means duckwalking a lot.
