After having wore my fitbit on my wrist as instructed, and assuming it was accurate for quite sometime, I came to find out that it is completely inaccurate as I apparently do not swing my arms enough while walking for it to catch all the steps! I now wear it on my ankle, don't miss a step count or the correct number of miles. I have checked it to be sure of it's accuracy now several times, by re-driving my walking route with my car, having the odometer set to start at zero. 🙂
Fitbit needs to make an ankle strap for the bit to slip into, but.......the large band fits my ankle perfectly, so all is well!!!! Just thought I'd share incase their are others who have noticed that they are only being credited for half their walk!! 🙂
Have a blessed day, y'all!!!

Extra steps not too bad.
You might be curious what it really adds for mileage and calories to the day - you can create an Activity Record for any chunk of time - that's just a snapshot of the stats for it, and see if it's really meaningful.
Because with nothing, you'd be given a sleeping BMR rate of burn, and standing burns more than that.

Don't get FB bands, they're way expensive. There are lots of band alternatives listed on Amazon....most under $10.

That was funny!

I have been staying with an elderly gentleman 89 years old where's his Fitbit on his ankle when he's riding his stationary bike in order to cheat family who lives in another state has access to his amount of steps I guess they challenge each other I don't know how to do that. I was helping him out and I went in there to see what he was doing and he was taking it off his ankles put it on his wrist so I walked back out. Took my dog out for a walk and came back in and he said how many steps do you have and I told 5000 something he showed me his which was almost double of mine swimming and his bike ride and a walk. 10,000 steps from swimming his bike ride in the back room 10 minute walk he does very well for 89 but hilarious. Tries to cheat everyday. He swims every day and rides his stationary bike everyday

I still wear my Flex 2 I love it. I don't like that it doesn't have a screen. First it did I ever had and it's waterproof and very accurate as far as I can tell and it still works. I also have a charge to that someone gave me. It's on its way out so I wear the flex when I am charging the other one

I've been wearing my Fitbit on my ankle for a couple years now because it is WAY more accurate. When I upgraded from a Flex to a Charge 4, I was hoping it would be accurate on my wrist, but no such luck. The downside of the ankle is that the Smart Watch aspect is completely pointless if you don't have easy access to it, and since it's larger, it now looks like I'm out on parole. 😞

This is my story, too. I wear it on my ankle because I have an Apple Watch I prefer for all things smart watch, EXCEPT fitness tracking. I've found my Charge 4 is very accurate on my ankle, but do get teased about it being my house arrest monitor. I am not holding my breath, but I'd LOVE it if Fitbit created a tracker intended for your ankle that doesn't look like my parole officer will be checking in at any moment.

Hey, can i ask what version you have?
Mine is the opposite, it counts too many steps by 3-5000

I like putting it on my ankle when I push the stroller, as wearing it on my arm while walking/running with a stroller does not count any of my steps! 😞

Just read your reply and was in TEARS😂 A much needed laugh. If I could get my legs on my bathroom counter like that I would care less if it was accurate or not.🤣

I put Fitbit on leg while using stationary bike. I hope I’m not cheating myself out of steps. I watch app and seems like steps are fairly accurate.

I've been wearing my Fitbit on my ankle for years because the wrist count is not accurate. Just push a cart in the grocery store and see if those steps are counted. Wearing it on the ankle is a great idea, I just wish Fitbit would step up and fix this issue. The Fitbit One was a pedometer and worked great. It was my first Fitbit. I'm now wearing Fitbit Charge 4 and just ordered the Charge 5. Still wearing my Fitbit on my ankle during the day and on my wrist at night for sleep stats.
As for heart rate, if you rest the Fitbit above the inside of your ankle it will pick up the pulse there, perfectly accurate.
I know this is an old thread but it's an important issue that Fitbit has yet to correct.

I can’t wear a watch at work so I wear Fitbit on my ankle. It records steps as I take them. I have compared data, wearing it on my wrist on days off. Readings are the same.
