Weight Lifting and FitBit

I have started lifting weights to stay in shape, as well as do aerobic exercise. Weight lifting has been recommended as a vital part of any sport or exercise for me. I would love to see FitBit include weight lifting options in the activity log: type of exercise, sets of lifts, weight used in each set, and number of set repetitions. I think it would be a simple addition, oh and include graphs over time. This would be wonderful with the rumored FitBit Charge HR.

There is a "feature request" board for these types of ideas. Looks like several other people agree with you and would like this feature. Go check it out and give it a "like" vote and comment below it if you want to add any ideas. https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Requests/Better-Weight-Training-Input/idi-p/127947

MyFitnessPal lets you do this:

I also believe you can sync calories burned in activities logged with MyFitnessPal to your Fitbit account.

It's probably easier to calculate what you burn in typical 30, 45 and 60 minute strength training sessions (using the calculator in MFP) and enter them manually (based on duration and perceived intensity) in Fitbit. It's an estimation anyway, and who really cares if it's off by 50 calories one way or the other.

I personally don't bother logging calories burned in strength training at all (I don't log calories eaten either), but I do log the actual exercises (number of reps/sets + weights being used) ... in an old-fashioned notebook.

Posted a reply on the feature request board as well.  I would love to see the fitbit develop as a more overall fitness device.  Currently use a couple other apps to track my lifting, trying them out to see which one i like best, but having everything in one spot would be great.  Also the addition of a HRM to a future version or support through the app for a third party HRM like I was able to do on Mapmy run.

The Fitbit activity matching MFP's Strength Training under Cardio section for calorie burn, is called Weight Lifting (powerlifting).

Fitbit has another one though for lighter workouts, but MFP has just the one.

Of course MFP has that tracker for your lifts and weights and reps too - but it's rather not full-featured once you need to log and view things better.

I'd prefer an app that is specific and does it right, start getting that issue of everything but the kitchen sink, and then everything works mediocre.

Is the above wishful thinking, or are you aware of an app that already does that? If so, what is it?

I don't recall the app, it was on Android at least because I saw it, but I don't carry my phone with me.

It basically was going to replace your notebook, put in your days, lifts for those days, whatever reps and sets and weight desired, then log what was actually done, look at charts of progress over all or lift specific, it was pretty full featured. The free version I looked at had some stuff disabled until you paid.

But I know I've seen several recomendations along the same lines, a weight lifting specific app for planning and logging your lifts and progress.

I had so few lifts, I just had slip of paper on my order and weight and reps. I didn't change reps or increase weight until all could. Since doing it for years, no big increases anyway, merely going from cardio to lifting focus depending on the year. I don't carry my phone for music anyway, so wasn't useful to me.

I just looked, I deleted it, and don't recall.
