What are your fitness goals for 2024?

Hey everyone,

It's the start of a New Year, so it's the perfect time to discuss what we are hoping to accomplish for the year. Feel free to update this thread as you reach milestones!

In 2023, I wanted to do low-impact exercises + walk my dog Mimi more and I'm happy to say that I accomplished that! (see photo of Mimi below in her winter coat looking cute as proof). This year, I want to focus more on strength training and exploring other kinds of fitness, outside of my comfort zone!

Mine is to walk in total of at least 1 M steps, and get the Japan and perhaps the India Badge too 😎. Weigh wise, it would be nice to get down to 43 kg but I'm not stressing about that too much 😊 This year is all about getting healthier physically and mentally, too 👍

I've had to cut down a lot, as I'm waiting for an appointment with a medical specialist.

So my first target in 2024 is to get my various pains properly diagnosed and treated, once they've worked out which specialist it should be.

That said, I can't let Walter (my border collie) down, so he'll still get his three daily walks, but they're averaging quite a bit less in distance than last year.  A lot depends on whether the present difficulty I have in walking continues to increase.  If it's just about plateaued, then I should be able to do 5M steps this year, and maybe 40 miles of climbing.

Signed up for 50 mile ultra trail run in May so I guess that's my goal now.

I bike commute and have some bike miles almost every day, but I rarely do really long bike rides. This year I want to do 4 centuries (100 mile rides). I've got an electric (pedal assist) bike now, so I'll use that, but I'll try to keep the assist off or in the lowest setting.

@Baltoscott that's a fantastic target!  I've only once done over 100 miles on a bike, which was a long time ago.  Four centuries in a year would be a terrific achievement.  My ride was from just outside Oxford to the Severn Bridge, which goes from England to Wales.  The intention was to meet a couple of colleagues who were doing a tandem ride over a couple of weeks from John o'Groats to Land's End.  We'd arranged an approximate time, and I was slightly early, helped by a gentle following wind.  I waited five hours, but never saw them - I later found out that they would have been seven hours late.

On the way out, I'd seen a nice-looking pub, which I earmarked for a supper stop on the way back.  got there, and was told that there weren't any cooked meals available that night, so I made do with beer, crisps and Mars bars.  With 30 miles to go, my left knee had had it, and I got back virtually on one leg.  There were no mobile phones in those days, so poor Mrs Vidd was waiting for me at home, getting increasingly worried, as I only got home about 11pm.

I think the electric assist is a great idea!  Best of luck with it.

Mine is to bulk and gain additional muscles, sleep right and eat right with lots of cardio.

Hello,

My biggest goals are to 1. lose weight. 2. gain muscle mass.

I walk on average 10,000 steps a day

I have lost around 100 pounds. I need to lose around 25 to 30 pounds more. I am struggling. I guess what I need to do is work on my muscles.

This is a great thread! Last year I aimed to do 10 push ups, it took me about 9 months to achieve (starting from 0), but I managed it on New Year's Eve! This year I have just decided to try and push up my age. Currently doing blocks of 5 up to 20 then box press ups to 50. My son is coaching me! 😀💪
