I really have to work hard to get up tp 10 k in a day, what do you do to achieve 10,000 steps each day?

Fit Cathy
I divide my day in 3 parts and try to achieve 4000 steps per part
I have been able to do this since the past 6 months

Today marks my second day using the Flex and I have achieved well over 15K steps each day. Honestly, I have become completely obsessed wtih the Android app and the site! It's truly amazing how something as simple as wearable technology and access to actively updated data works as the perfect motivator for me. I can say, without a doubt, I have taken more steps in the past two days than I did all last week!

If you're asking how much activity it takes, I can tell you what I've observed. I got to 10,000 steps with about an hour and ten minutes on my treadmill today. Yestereday I did an hour on the treadmill in the morning and later in the day I took a walk with a friend and about half way through the walk my fitbit told me that I'd gotten to 10,000. I think the cold weather here in Chicago makes it hard to get to 10,000 naturally so I have to add some treadmill time. I'm guessing that come Spring I'll get 10,000 with a couple of dog walks and my normal outdoor activity easily.

I take the dog for a half hour walk at 7 am before work. I sit down most of the day, but walk for half an hour at around 1 pm. Plus general walking around the office making cups of coffee etc generally gets me to 10,000 steps. I therefore get up to about 60 minutes of very active steps each day mixed with long periods of very little activity because of my job. It is the only way I can achieve the 10,000 steps.
To boost the number of steps I also try to go for a 5 km run 2 times a week if my body isn't injured, which often happens when I go running too often.
Hope this is useful.

Hiya
How are you getting on with that 10K?
I run or workout in the mornings - 5k run, or run a mile and then a DVD workout which gives another 2000 approx usually. So I have done the big bulk of my day's steps before 7am. I have a sedentary job so have to push myself to get the workout in 🙂
I also usually go for a 1-2 mile walk at lunchtime.
Weekends I run similar distance and Sundays is usually 5 miles. I will often walk into the City which is about a mile there and another back, and get any shopping we need - even plodding round Debenhams racks them up!
I also rush about a lot at home and keep busy, and I don't sit down that much in the evenings. I love to be active and hate it if I have a day I don't walk or run, say if I am poorly. I run in all weathers and walk in them too 🙂
Go for it, you can do it,
Alex

I get 4-5k doing housework, running errands and taking care of my kids.
I get around 8-12k from running.
I get around 12k at work.
I have 10k before 10am.

I have gotten 12k steps on the treadmill at 8.3 min/mile. then I ended up with left calf shinsplint! This has been on going for 2 weeks now. I am trying to regain my steps so yesterday I walked the 5 miles in about an hour. I think that pace is about 14min per mile. I am trying to let this heal up some. Yep because of 12hr shifts it can be difficult to get in 5miles per day.

I was getting shin problems issues which turned out to be due to walking in running trainers. As soon as I bought walking trainers it healed right up - give it a try! Mine are Sketchers Flex Appeal. Well done on the stepping though, keep going 🙂

I try to walk around at work when I'm not being watched, like make a walk to here or there, and an excuse to do it

I had a hard time getting in my 10k when I first started with fitbit. I finally got mine in plus more when I started doing my c25K, zumba and taebo.

I find myself walking around my house at night if I'm close to the 10k but didn't reach it yet. There is something very satisying about seeing it turn green

I do that too! And step on the spot as I brush my teeth and take my makeup off. Every little helps!

If I am running, 5K is a nice start. Then I usually hit my 10,000 by lunch. On the weekend, if I am chasing the lawnmower, it's even easier. We have a big yard to mow!

Yesterday was a slow day for me. (Coulldn't take my normal 5 mile walk.) I noticed I was 400 short of my 10k and walked around the house and high stepped in place to get the last 20 in!
The 5.3 mile walk is around 10,000 steps is itself and takes 1.5 hours. Reasonable investment.
