I am just curious about the most steps walked in a single day. I have 45,000, and it was tough getting that badge.

Well I’ve gotten 100,000 steps before because of a 75 mile marathon and I bet other people could’ve done it before as well so I hope that helps.

My wife and I are both 66 average 20,000 a day , we walk every day even -25 Celsius . Older people can still keep in relatively good shape as log as they are motivated. Keep walking and enjoy a healthy mental and physical life.

I’m a door to door salesman and i get an average of 30,000 steps a day, and that’s walking 12 hours everyday i can’t really think of another job where they walk more? But! I’m sure they exist! Maybe mail delivery or package delivery

My personal best is 145,000 in a day took over 4 hours of running and about 13 hours of fast walking. I would say 200,000 is definitely possible. I plan to try for 200,000 later this year.

@Ranger2537 Yes, except that the record was done running ~ 7:30 miles, for which step count/mile is about 1350 (not 2200, the average walking count). So 180 miles x 1350 st/mi = 243,000 steps. Still a heck of a lot of steps.

Last weekend myself and others climbed and descended 6 different routes of Snowden in under 24 hours clocking in 118,000 steps. We started at 0300 so the last 15000 steps fell in the next day so unofficially my answer is 133,000. I do believe 200k and above is possible if we did this many going up and down a mountain.

I don't think anyone really knows for sure, but you can do the math and see how much you could get in a day. Personally, I get about 100 steps a minute walking. If I were to walk the whole day (all 24 hours), I could get 144,000 steps.
Note: This used to say 114,000 (a typo) so sorry if you are confused.

I did 26 miles on Friday which was a shade over 55k steps. I’m planning to do a charity walk in which I aim to cover 100 miles in 24hrs.
Also, I’m looking for a good cause. Personally, I would like to connect with a family who is in dire need of funds for a sick or terminally ill child but I’m open-minded? Does anybody know anyone that could use some funds?

@GirlsCanRun 24hr x 60 min/hr x 100 steps/min = 144,000 steps (not 114,000), guess you gave back 30k steps (5 hours) looking for your calculator. However, many endurance racers can jog/light run at 150 steps/min - same calculation, 216,000 - take off for breaks as you see fit.

I've calculated about 209.000 steps during a 24 hour period (not midnight to midnight). Total covered distance was just over 175 km.

What is the most amount of steps anyone has ever walked in a single day?
Why 425,000 steps is possible in a single day.
Due to technology constraints of the past, and recording inaccuracy etc, records will primarily be kept for professional athletes who don’t generally exercise for 24hours straight. You could try Guinness world records ...
In terms of what someone in theory could do, here is my answer.
425726.888851 mate ...
Why that is the correct answer in theory
Race walking first appeared at the Olympics in 1904
The 50km race walk
Both genders lifetime best of 3:42:50. (2019)
(Time in minutes to walk 50km) (42.833333333333333 add (3 times 60)) = 222.833333333 minutes
Minutes in a day = (60*24) = 1440 minutes
(Minutes in a day)/ (minutes for 50km walk max) = 6.46222887061
1440/222.83333333333=6.46222887061
(6.46222887061) times 50km = 323.11144353 km per day max
*We make the assumption that the best race walker has a higher than average for his height step length so use the overall average for our stats*
So ...
30 inches = 0.762 meters per step
323.11144353 km = 323111.44353 meters per day
Maximum meters travelled/meters per step = “maximum steps in single day”
(323111.44353/0.762) = (424030.765788) error margin using Fitbit device, not app 0.4%+- Recording max = (425726.888851)
Calculated as 500 correct step number, 502 recorded by Fitbit so hence 0.4% inaccurate according to “today” study (5).
So assuming continuous high intensity activity was possible for 24hours without toilet breaks, dying, confusing your devices recording systems, assuming a race walker has a similar stride length for his height to that of the average man, and assuming that the device used is 100% accurate for recording steps ( which Fitbit isn’t), then this may well be possible.

Hit my highest number of steps so far last Saturday (152,412), beating my previous of just over 121k. This was part of a 100 mile trail race called Grindstone - the race started at 6pm Friday night so basically I ran (and hiked) from midnight Friday night until about 11pm Saturday night - although I didn't finish the race, dropped at 80 miles. Most of the effort was hiking instead of running because the terrain is very mountainous and technical (LOTS of rocks!), and also I'm not as well trained as I would like to be. If I was able to run more of the course rather than hike I could have covered more ground, and steps, but that would be offset by the fact that you take less steps per mile by running than walking due to increased stride length.
Anyway, wanted to share and also say, as others have said, that 200k+ I'm sure is possible.

2 years ago, I voluntarily walked 50 miles in one day. It took 19 hours. My fit bit step count was over 100,000 for that day!
