What's your dream travel destination?

With everything that has happened for the last couple of years, many of us may have thought about a place in particular that we'd love to visit when it's safe to travel again. For now we're limited to watch videos or check pictures of those places, but I'm hopeful that we'll be able to travel safely again in the near future.

I have many dream destinations, but my ultimate favorites are Japan and Egypt, because I really love those cultures and the great food they have to offer!  What about you? What are the destinations inside or outside of your country that you'd love to visit one day and why? Or maybe you'd like to repeat a destination.

Here is my dream. I even have the funds hidden away to pay for it. Just waiting for the darn variants and some personal health issues to get resolved. But here goes …

I live in Michigan (in the US). I plan to fly to Vancouver, WA and spend a couple days there, drinking the wonderful coffee, visiting Pikes Place Market to see the fish mongers tossing the fish around, etc. Then, there is a “cruise train” that takes you through the mountains in Canada. Imagine a train seat   That faces the windows, allowing you to easily take in all the majesty of the Rockies! I’ll take that to Alaska where I plan to spend another week before getting on a small cruise ship back to the US, watching whales and icebergs. Once back in WA or CA, hubby (who is a serious car nut) wants to rent a car and follow Route 66 as far as we can. It will be a long trip!  And it WILL HAPPEN!!

Thanks for the opportunity to day dream about this trip, @DavideFitbit

Everywhere, honestly!  I'd love to do more traveling, but with our dogs and my husband's unpredictable work schedule (he's USAF, so he can be deployed with not much notice) we don't really do much travelling.  My husband also has a fear of flying (yes, even though he's in the AF, he's afraid of flying -- he's not a pilot!).

Top of my list currently: Bora Bora, Grand Cayman, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, France, Africa, Jamaica, Seychelles, Maldives, Switzerland

That sounds like a great trip, @SunsetRunner! One that is full of nature, great food and people. I always wanted to take the Amtrak Coast Starlight from LA to Seattle and then the beautiful Amtrak Cascades from Seattle to Vancouver in Canada, it really seems like a wonderful journey. I never thought about going all the way to Alaska and and watch the whales, that would make it just perfect! My dad wants to follow route 66 as well, he will move to Oklahoma in a couple of years and has been checking out all the places to see on throughout the route. 😀

Yes, I can relate to that @Heather-S! It's difficult to find the right time to travel, especially when there are dogs in the house, cause they really are like our little babies  🐶 + being able to coordinate vacation time. Those are great destinations you have in mind! I'd love to visit Australia one day too. 😎

Wow! Everybody seems interested in traveling by train. Before the pandemic,  I usually left the country for a month on vacation. When things become safer, I want to take the Trans-Siberian railway from Moscow to Vladivostok. I found a deal for about $5000.00 which includes the train fare and hotels and it lasts about a month. The other expenses would be some food costs and airfare from the US to and from Russia. There is even a side trip to Mongolia.

Sure I will post pictures when I go. There is one place that really looks
interesting Lake Baikal in Siberia. The itinerary says there is a stop for
several days there.

I did some research on Lake Baikal after I talked to one of my friends who lives in Siberia. She sent me some links and some pictures. When I saw those I decided as soon as things get safer to travel, I am going to take the trip. This is sort of similar to the way I planned a trip to Argentina several years ago. I was thinking about going to Argentina anyway but when I found about the falls at Iguazu (in the triple frontier which is where the countries Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay meet), I immediately applied for a Brazilian visa so I could see all sides of the falls. I flew out of Buenos Aires into the Puerto de Iguazu and from there I went to Brazil so I could see the falls from both countries.

Greece is definitely on my list!!! Before the pandemic, I was able to visit Tulum and it was a paradise. I met a couple who were from Greece and they were telling me how laid back and beautiful it is out there especially the sunsets. (That's what a sold me haha)

Hope I can visit as soon as the pandemic settles down.

That's an amazing trip, @cindynelson! I was going to Iguazu last year and had everything booked already, but due to the pandemic I had to cancel everything and get a refund. I'll love to go one day, it's definitely one of the natural wonders of the world. 😀

Don't forget to share some pics on the Community when you make the trip in the future, @healthy2022! Athens and Santorini are some of the world's top destinations, and that's just to name a few, it's definitely worth a visit. 😁

@cindynelson as a Russian, I totally support your dream! Russia is so beautiful regardless of the season. There is something magical in the history and romance of our past. Even the bad things. Be sure to stop in Kiev which is my birth city. Also, please try all the food. Even if you don't know what it is or it doesn't look familiar. You will love all of it.

As for me, my list of places is so long it would probably be easier to say where I don't want to go. If I have to pick my top 3: I want to go to Spain for the running of the bulls (this is on the list for 2022 so fingers crossed). I want to go to Greece- but I think I will need 3 weeks to do it properly so that is a retirement goal. I want to go to South Africa and live in a village with a host family for a month. Also, retirement.

I am very lucky that my family has come to love traveling, so they are open minded about all adventures.

Several years ago I planned a trip to Russia. I was going to meet one of my
Siberian friends who works in Moscow and we planned to take the Nevsky
Express from Moscow to St Petersburg. However, I changed jobs a month
before the trip so I had to cancel. Fortunately I got an entire refund.

Right now I have to not only consider the pandemic but also since I am
close to retirement, I may just wait until I retire to take the trip from
Moscow to Vladivostok. You might consider adding two places in South
America to your list. Iguazu falls in (Argentina\Brazil) and
Patagonia(Argentina\Chile).

Spain is wonderful @emili! That's true, Greece has many islands and it would probably take some time to get to know the most famous spots or just to explore the small villages there or the village in South Africa you mentioned, it sounds like an awesome trip.

Yeah, it's definitely challenging to coordinate vacation time, especially when we start a new job 😔, but I hope you can make the trip once you retire @cinzianelson! Thank you for suggesting those places too, Patagonia seems like a dreamlike destination. 😎

I'll definitely do so! Might share some pics on one of my last trips before the pandemic hit, I got to sneak in a trip to Vietnam on January–that country is beautiful, peaceful, and the coffee is out of this world!

We'd planned a trip to Edinburgh for April 2020...sigh. So I'd love to do that. Pandemic bad habits had me wondering if my fitness would be up to it (those hills!) in 2022 but since I started Fitbitting again I think it's doable. It's nice to be able to consider walking and hill-intensive places (Santorini!) without thinking "I couldn't handle that!" I dream of visiting Egypt one day, too, to visit Hatshepsut's tomb. OTOH, just going back to NYC would be amazing, and more reachable.

Thank you for sharing your dream destinations, @cmon! All of those are wonderful places, I hope I can visit any of them in the near future. I always wanted to do a paranormal tour in Edinburgh since I saw it on TV and anything from Egypt would be a dream come true as well! 😀
