What you do for your hourly activity besides walking?

ANSWERED

I'm a newbie to the community, so I apologize if this question has been asked before.

What are some ways y'all get your hourly activity besides walking?  I ask because I work in a small office and sometimes I'm in a Zoom meeting so I can't leave.

Does walking in place count?  My office is tiny.  How about jumping jacks?

I guess I'm curious how to meet that hourly activity goal without steps (and in a tiny space).

Thanks in advance for your help!

Yours is a great question!

Your Fitbit uses a 3-axis accelerometer to count your steps. Since we wear these on our wrists, the motion of our arms causes our devices to track steps. That's why users who push strollers or shopping carts will see a lower number of steps.

If you walk in place, you might want to pump your arms to give the motion needed to track steps. That will also get your heart pumping and give you Active Zone Minutes. Doing jumping jacks should also give you steps...and Active Zone Minutes. 😁

There have been times when we're in the car and I only need a few more steps to get my hour activity. I discovered punching the air and shuffling my feet will give me the steps I need to make my hourly goal.

You can get very creative to get enough movement so that you meet your hourly step goal. 😉

@tjaburke8  Both of them count in my book.  You do what you can do to keep from being sedentary at work.

Hi @tjaburke8

Another option is marching in place 🙂

I work 8 hours and every hour I take a break to rest my eyes. I try to talk with friends, drink coffee, look out the window. Also, I work out on the treadmill. I read Peloton Interactive reviews and suggested to the boss to install a treadmill because our team lacks physical activity. So I am very satisfied with my work in the office now

I just type on a keyboard 🤣 It adds enough steps to satisfy hourly activity 🤣
