Will my Surge last a marathon on GPS

ANSWERED

Howdy Folks.

long time lurker first time poster. anyone have experience running a marathon with the Surge?

Im training for the Dublin Marathon (First Timer) at the moment and i know the specs say it works for 5 hours on GPS but was wondering if anyone had any real world experience of it tracking GPS & Heart for that duration. I know i could just leave it on GPS after a full charge and see how long it takes to drain but wont be a true test... at least i dont think it will 🙂

I completed 24k today in 2h10 and the battery was around halfway drained, and "hope" to completed the marathon in arond 4h.30* id like to have it tracked and recorded... mainly so i can gloat... if i make it 🙂

Cheers

Rob

Hey! With the last firmware update they say that the GPS battery life on Surge is now up to 10 hours. I don't run/walk continuously/hike that much so I wouldn't know, but it should last you definitely more than 5 hours on a full battery.

I think you can definitly do a test run! I would just try to make it on a day when you're really busy going from place to place, so your GPS has to "work" a little harder. Also, this reviewer said their watch lasted over 7 hours with GPS! Personally, I would probably take a little USB charger (you can get them for like 15-20USD), and charge it up until you're at the starting line!

Good luck with your training and on race day! I'm sure you'll crush it!

thanks for the replies folks.

I did a 3h.15 20mile long run yesterday on a full charge and there was at least half of the battery left so will definetly be fine for the marathon... unless it takes me more than 10 hours lol.

thanks again... only 3 weeks now to Dublin Marathon... cant wait.

Hey there @r0bc! You're working hard hat's a pretty nice time so you just have to make sure to make it in 10 hours or less hahaha.

Keep training hard you still have 3 weeks I'm sure you can improve on that time 😄

Hey the Fitbit surge works for duration of a marathon. I ran the Columbus Marathon in October and it worked the whole time and the day after. Battery life is great.
