Hi fellow fitness enthusiasts and Fitbitters! Having quite a struggle being consistent with wearing my tracker and getting out to get at least 10K steps per. Yes, it's blazing hot in Sacramento this summer. However, this is just an excuse. Please help! Thank you!

Hi there Stephen! I wear my Charge 2 always, except showering/swimming/charging, so you might want to try that. That way you don’t think about it.
I know how unbearable it can be getting out when blazing hot ... if possible, you may want to try for earlier in the morning or later in the evening.
Not sure what kind of work you do, but I work in an office and try to get up and ‘wander’ a couple times an hour if my schedule permits it. Even if i’m very busy, bathroom trips are still necessary, so I use the one furthest from my desk and add a few extra trips down the hallways. When going to the grocery store, I walk all the aisles even though I mostly shop from the perimeter.
Park farther away from your destination, use the stairs, put items away one at a time ... all those things add up. I am a numbers person, so I compete with myself to exceed previous number of steps, exercise time, active minutes, etc. That helps motivate me.
And last but not least, even if you REALLY don’t want to get out and walk or whatever, tell yourself that you just need to go for 10 minutes or so ... you will be surprised to find that once you start, you will often keep going past your original time allotted.
good luck! Once you start logging 10k (or whatever goal you choose) for a couple of weeks, it will become a habit and much easier!

Yes Its is Blazing hot in Sac. But I get out at 7:00 AM to get my walk in.
I'm retired now but I did it when I was working as well before work.
Just get up a bit earlier and get it done.
So KICK!

It's hot out here in Oklahoma. I get the majority of my steps at the gym during the week. On off days from the gym, I get steps around the house cleaning and I'll walk in place while watching TV.
My husband and I also go to a well-shaded park to walk and run around dusk a couple times a week -- we walk for 1 mile and then run for 1.5 miles and then walk again to cool off on our way back to the car. At dusk it's not too hot.

Perhaps you could give yourself a break and lower your daily goal for a week or so.
IMO making an achievable goal and sticking to it is better than risking getting so demotivated you'll give up altogether.
I've also found walking to music helps.

I have had a 9 month absence with multiple excuses but I am back. Do you like to read? When walking alone - A really great Aubible book over music keeps me going. Sometimes I find myself wanting to go back out and walk just so I can listien to my book. Rule #1 - you can only listen to the book when you walk. Try that.

I do walking videos in the morning. That and my morning prep (fixing breakfast, getting dressed) usually gets me between 3,700 and 4,000 steps before I even walk out the door. My walk to the bus stops and while transferring buses usually gets me to or above 5,000, so I'm halfway to my goal at 7:30. And of course, I make sure I walk around the floor of my office building at least once an hour (I'm drinking a lot of tea and water, so I have to pee that frequently!).
If you don't want to walk outside -- and I can't say I blame you -- can you go to a local mall and walk around the floors? I live in an apartment building with a little fitness center, so in a pinch, I can use the treadmills. Before I did that, I would walk the halls of my floor. Do you have either of those options?
Find a way to exercise indoors when the weather doesn't allow it.

wear your tracker.. set reminders to move- they will annoy the heck out of you but get you up to move around. It is hot in PA and never ending storms. I am lucky enough to have two dogs who have a very ingrained schedule of first morning needs. We do two miles before breakfast every day. I work from home, but I have a tied to the computer job. Every hour or so I will stand up and at least let the dogs out back or pace around- anything to get the blood moving. Most of my steps though come from the gym at night or the park if weather permits. If you treat fitness like an option or an addition to or if time allows, it will never happen. You don't skip meals, showers, brushing your teeth, putting on deodorant- treat fitness the same. Make it part of your life, a routine and you won't need kicking.. you'll need new shoes every few months

Here in Phoenix in monsoon it is really hard to walk outside. I have a silver sneakers membership, but no gym close. My solution is to go to one of the big box stores (I have both a Sams and a Costco within two miles) grab a cart and go up and down the isles for an hour. Sometimes I even buy something LOL. Pushing the cart increases the calorie burn, and they keep it REALLY cool in there. I wear my Flex 2 on my ankle because it doesn't read accurately when pushing a cart if it is on my wrist. I only take it off to charge it overnight.
Even so, with the weather as hot and muggy as it is, I'm only getting about 8000 steps a day on average instead of my normal 11,000 or so. Oh well. Better than nothing. I'm spending a lot of time in front of a fan!
