Did you mean:

are there norms for age groups? or goals?

Just starting fitbit zip - it would be useful to know what an appropriate goal would be.

It depends on your current fitness level - it wouldn't be a good idea to go from being fairly inactive for a number of year to trying to walk 10,000 steps every day.

If you are just starting out exercising its best to do a little less than you think you should, and aim to increase it slowly.

I am actually in pretty good condition for my age and 10,000 steps are fine
if I have the time. I was curious what goals to work toward. (my
competitive side lol )

Thanks for answering. The advice is very good!
