beginning ... bought my first fitbit!!

ANSWERED

I have been wanting this fitness tracker for a long time and my husband gave it to me for Christmas!

I have been walking every day 2 miles on treadmill and never seem to sit down - today I logged in almost 12,000 steps!  However, I have to work on my food - I came out even but when I look at what I ate I can do much better healthy wise.

Looking forward to this adventure - hoping to lose 78 pounds over the next year!

smaller dinner plates is helpful in starting on smaller meals. substituting helps as well. fruit for times when you have cravings. if you change everything at once, its hard to stay on course. changing some things at a time is easier to stick to.

when you start to notice changes, it gets even easier to stay in course

Thanks Marci - I've decided to log in my food as well - that will be more of a challenge, but I have to look at myself with open eyes... I'm overweight because of portions and need to weigh my food and do portion control.

I love certain foods and can still have them (like cole slaw) ... seeing what 1 oz of something is is a real eye opener!

welcome too!! This is such an eye opener....... I used to log food into myfitnesspal.com and really didn't "see" what I was doing.  Now with fitbit I can see everything together and are excited about making changes.

You can keep logging your food in myfitnesspal if that is what you prefer and link the myfitnesspal account to your FitBit account. Then the food data will show in the FitBit app and you can still use the meals you created in myfitnesspal.

often you can still have the things you like by substituting. for example, with coleslaw, using reduced fat mayo rather than full fat. if you buy things coleslaw from stores you cant control it as much as making it yourself. when you change to low fat stuff tho...watch the salt content. sodium will need to store water with it in your body so you get the extra weight of the water. the salt water in your body is supposed to be similar to sea water so theres a balance between salt and water.

Hi!  Just got my new fitbit too.  I am learning a lot and working on recovering my health.  Best of luck and Happy New Year to you too.

I got mine on December 18. My wife and I bought them for ourselves as Christmas presents. We both got the Charge 2.

She's already eyeing new bands 🙂

So far I like it.

I like having it in the gym, as apposed to my Phone. I keep that in my locker. It's **ahem** distracting when I am trying to work out.

@essieL Well, my wife has been at this weight loss journey a lot longer than I have. In the last two years, she has gone from 335-ish to 181 lbs. Mostly dieting. However, we both joined a local gym last April 2017.

I've been at this since the end of December 2016, and at the end of December 2017, I have lost 132 lbs.

Staring weight: 420

Current weight: 288

Goal weight: 250

We've only had the FitBits for a few weeks, but I am really enjoying mine. I am hoping it will give me info on my output etc so I can use that info to better/push myself more. Small steps of course, as I have learned that is Journey does not end, and there is no race.
