calories burned

Every morning I go on the elliptical for 30 minutes and run on the treadmill for 30 mins. Should I assume the fitbit provides me with the accurate amount of calories I actually burned? Does it detect my movement on the elliptical even though I'm not stepping or walking?

Hi Zach!  I would only count on your fitbit counting calories automatically for walking or running.  You should manually enter other fitness activities, and this will calculate your calories for those activities and add them to your daily running total.  From your dashboard, go to the log tab.  Then go to activities.  Scroll down and you'll see some icons of a swimmer, a cyclist and a runner.  Type in your activity, the time of day you did it, and how long you spent doing it.  When you sync your fitbit, it will add the calories burned  to your totals.  I hope this helps.  Smiley Happy

I agree with Stephen that you should log in activities because fitbit does not take into account your resistance and the slope for a calorie.  If you are using a 1 resistance then you are probably fine just using the fitbit on an elliptical.  I find the step count is the same on fitbit for my elliptical but my calorie count is higher when I use a higher slope and/or resistance.  I currently burn 400 calories in 35 minutes with my workout so I log it in separately.

I hope this helps!

For the elliptical (and any other non-step-based activity), the answer is: no. You should log them separately, as explained here:
