Measure elliptical activity?
As in steps - not that accurately, because of the normally smooth motion might not register. Some put on ankle, but then it's only seeing motion of one foot changing direction, not both. You may luck out and are so bouncy when doing it it counts correctly the "steps" that aren't really steps.
As in calories - not accurately at all, since the formula it uses for steps is for, well, steps, not elliptical. And if doing the ankle thing, only half the "steps" you actually took. Again, you may luck out and do your elliptical at such a speed that by pure coincidence it matches the calculated calories burn Fitbit comes up with.
How would you know if it will? You wouldn't.
Using a HRM in conjunction with that type of cardio would be best chance to get calorie burn, correctly setup HRM.

The flex counts the steps and I wear the flex on my wrist. I look at the steps on my eliptical and my fitbit and they are VERY close. However, it does not take into account the slope or your level.
You have to log it in as an acitivity on the log tab. Go on your eliptical and note how how the level, slope is you work out. Then take careful note of the minutes and calories. ( I usually work out for at least 45 minutes level 6-8 at a 30% incline. This is about 400 calories.) Log in the activity with the calories and it will record your active minutes. If you do the same activity, you can add the eliptical to your favorites and just use your mobile device.

I wish the Fitbit would use the miles that I manually put in along with time and calories from my elliptical.
It does register some of the motion into steps but if it did the mileage it would be better.

I use the Fitbit Flex as the wristband counts steps while moving on the elliptical. Stationary exercises aren't accurately accounted for with a Zip and One. Otherwise you need to manually log your entries in which alters the data unless you perform walking or running outdoors.
