exersizing with a knee injury

I hurt my knee and I was told not to do any weight bearing exersize but that I needed to lose weight. I need some ideas for working out. There isn't anyplace to swim around here and I can't use the recumbent bike for at least another week or two. I'm going crazy not doing anything.

Here are some links to exercises you can do while sitting. There are some that invove the legs, but I would just skip those.

Don't let your hurt knee derail your entire health and exerise program. You can do it.

PS I am not a doctor or physical therapist so you should run these by your doctor before getting started.

I'm a first year physical therapy student, so don't think my word is law, but this year is orthopedics so I've learned some useful stuff so far. If you can't get to a pool you might be out of luck for cardio until you can get onto a bike short of upper body plyometrics while sitting. Things like jab, hook, cross, uppercut with a theraband/resistance band. For strength training work on some single leg squats on your unaffected leg, going slow focusing on control and keeping your pelvis level. For your injured leg straight leg raises are great. depending on what kind of knee injury you have be careful with any ankle weights so you don't stress it or cause pain. If you can't also some knee curls on a machine or with a theraband. Hope that helps!

There are plenty of workouts you can do while sitting or lying on an exercise ball.......  lifting some light weights over your head works your shoulders/arms and your core muscles.

I hear you! I have no cartilage in my right knee and was ignoring some pains in my right leg.  Finally, my leg told me during a walk that I was going to  sit up and listen.  It cramped so badly that I almost cried.  I have had charley horses before but nothing like this.  The pain has continued for two weeks - not as severe of course.  I don't have a swimming pool nearby so this is really making a giant dent in my exercise routine.  I usually do dancing, zumba and/or walking.  I have been able to keep up with the strength training but that doesn't calculate on the fitbit flex.  Any suggestions as to what to do to increase what I'm burning?
