@userpeach Welome to the forums.
What is the "pulse upgrade" because I've not heard about it before. The Force does not measure heart rate. To do that, you'd need to buy a heart monitor.

The upgrade today to the Withing Pulse (makes all current Pulse's a "Pulse O2", and measures O2 blood levels (in addition to your pulse)), and adds a band (a few bucks for current pulse owners), so you can wear the tracker on your wrist or a clip. The Pulse O2 itself can be bought that includes the band...
But wait! There is more! The band was designed so you can replace the band itself, and use the holder for the pulse with many standard watchbands (like a normal watch can do), so if the band doesn't fit or you want another style/color, you can buy a normal watchband that suits your taste. And Withings does tie into scales (that's where they started), as well as things like MFP.
This is why fitbit's next gen can't be a force with the issues resolved - other vendors have already released devices with more functionality that can be bought today....
