Hi Redcar, I have the same problem I'm on 3 different meds for B/P. I'm losing weight and eating better. Hopefully it will pay off before long. Sometimes hypertension is hereditary so just keep doing the best you can and be patient. George

@redcar Walking is the best exercise. I'm sure your doctor has given you some suggestions on what to do to lower your blood pressure.
You will want to avoid extra sodium in products, too. So many foods have sodium and eating out means you need to be careful. My husband used to love getting a big jelly biscuit from Hardees as a treat. He would eat three of them, thinking without the eggs, meat or cheese, he was being good. Well, each biscuit had 1,180 mg of sodium and he wasn't to have more than 2,400 mg of sodium in a day before he developed high blood pressure. Now his limit is 1,500 mg per day and he's having to pick and choose what he eats. You can do it if my husband can!
Avoiding stress is helpful. Be good to yourself and don't be hard on yourself. You're not alone and as @gmurtie said be patient and do the best you can.
Welcome to the forums, both of you!

@redcar Have you heard of the DASH diet? It stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. It is a flexible eating plan and has been clinically proven to help reduce blood pressure.

Sounds like you are taking the appropriate steps. As others pointed out, watch the salt content of your food -- most processed foods contain a horrendous amount of salt (in some cases close to the recommened daily intake in a bowl of soup).
