I bought a used fitbit so I have been using a pedometer along with the fitbit to compare the steps. They do not match at all! Yesterday I went on a hike of more than 16,000 steps but the fitbit only showed around 4000 steps. Why is this?

I read the article, but I have a zip. I wear it on my waist facing in. Is that correct?

Looks like you're wearing it correctly - here are some diagrams - click
Here is the Zip area for the manual and related articles.
