Strangely, my "very active minutes" clocks in at only 4 mins! but I was 20" on the eliptical + 20" of fast walking.
It accurrately tracks the " very active minutes" walking on the beach.
What am I missing!?
Very grateful for any insights the community might be able to share with this newbie!
Thanks!

I have a Flex

Oops, sorry about that @Sultanmerchant .- should have read the thread from the beginning. Even though the the Flex is calibrated to be worn on the wrist, it still relies on a 3D axis accelerometer to track movement - and I think that the absence of forward motion will skew your stats somehow.

Yesterday all my activity and step s dropped off my cell and the web lost about 2000 point of activity steps.

Points? Are you referring to MFP sync?

HAHA! That's why I only use one web site, fitbit.com. Not that I have anything against MFP, far from it; but the more complexity you add the the syncrhonization of data, the higher the chances are that things will go wrong. Hopefully someone else can chime in to help, because I'm not familiar with MFP.

Don't really understand where the info went lacking, or if you logged in to web account to confirm what was or was not there.
I'll mention that if you log running or walking on MFP, it syncs across and replaces the Fitbit calorie burn with what you entered. But I've always had steps remain.

@SpangFrom reading and analysing many posts over nearly 3 years the "seasoned" Fitbitters never put activity into MFP, just their food intake. There are too many reported issues, and the main one is that MFP does not know your intensity level every 60 seconds. That is the time interval that Fitbit uses for VAM, it flattens your calories by averaging and you miss out. @TandemWalker @Heybales

I've had some issues too. Walked the same distance, three times, took the same length of time (within 10 seconds) of an hour each. My VAM does not include all those walks... weird.
I think I too will just ignore this stat as it makes no sense and is not accurate. Hopefully an update by fitbit will fix this bug.

You didn't mention what Fitbit tracker you're using (it makes a difference, as they do not count VAMs in the same way, although they should in theory), nor how fast you walked.
See this older post of mine (in this same thread): my speed needs to be almost 7 km/h in order for all my walking to be classified as VAMs, with a Fitbit One (the model that makes it the hardest to get VAMs).

@KiwiRobynVAM is calculated from steps and speed and your BMR. The image is an example of what I need to do to achieve each level of Activity. I apologise, because this was for a USA post but I use this converter web page for all of the conversions we need globally. Therefore for my VAM the 4.5 mph is 7.25 kmh and that is on a Fitbit One. The Zip is easier, the Ultra similar to the One and I presume the Flex is somewhere in between.
