This forum is full of questions about different meals, ideas to share, tips and tricks of what to buy or how to make a recipe.... I thought it would be fun to see the flipside of the coin.
What is a food item you regret trying, and would never use or do again? And why ?
Here is my little tale: I look to find snack foods that are low carb. Crackers are something I try to replace with alternatives. I grabbed a bag of Annie Chun's Cracked Pepper and Herb seaweed snacks from the grocery. Hmm... seaweed wrapped around sushi was pretty good... why not as an herbed snack? Cracked pepper? Even better!
Uhm, NO. It was flimsy. It stuck to my tongue like a Listerine strip; But let me assure you - wasnt as refreshing. It tasted like day-old fish in the fridge. Could not find the cracked pepper, either. Needless to say, the entire package made its way to the trash can and I will nevermore look at those again with any level of admiration.
So, whats your moment?

My fails aren't so bad usually. I found roasted, salted edamame was horrid (I don't know if the individual package was bad, but son liked it just fine...so I guess it's me). I'm also with everyone on the seaweed and kale. I don't do a lot of dark greens because I just can't get past the feeling I'm eating "grass" from the yard. I also can't do green beans. Something about eating too many as a kid since it was what we could afford. NEVER AGAIN!

I don't like pickled mango.
Not at all.
Regular mangoes, yes.
Regular pickles, yes.
Pickled mango...no.

I don't mind Daiya cheese. 🙂 But I like to melt it on a vegan poutine and mix it with mushroom gravy. If you melt it, it tastes better. Just regular? No.
Sort of like how eggplant is tastier if you cook it 🙂 😄

I've had hummus I love and hummus I didn't like much...sometimes it's the brand.
Where I live, in Winnipeg, there is a really good one called Tribe hummus, with camels on the front.

Quinoa...
You know, it's the only food item I've just flat out rejected. For instance: I don't particularly like the taste of carrots, but can I eat them? Hells yes. Especially because I know they're good for me. But, every single time I try quinoa, my body just shuts down. I put a fork full in my mouth and it just sits there on my tongue. When I finally manage to swallow the stuff, I might get another three fork fulls in before I completely give up.
I know it's healthy, and I would love to love that stuff. Dunno. Body just can't deal

I really love blueberries and I love applesauce. So, at the store I found those prepackaged cups that contained blueberry applesauce. Tried them, then threw them away. Tasted awful.

For me the hummus has to be the right "flavor". I've tried a number of them and don't like them all. Just a thought.

Really want to try the spaghetti squash, but I'm scared... It looks like a great option, but haven't been able to get up the nerve yet.

my kids and i can polish of a costco size thing of dried seaweed in a few days. i love the way it sticks to my tongue:) i cant stad oatmeal, soupy , hard, seasoned, doesnt matter i just cant enjoy it. someone else mentioned wasabi, deargod that stuff is the devil, just one taste can ruin an entire meal. hummus? also reminds me of cat food and the thought of the cat food is actually more appatizing. as for the kale i put it in homemade chicken soup about 5 minuts before it finishes cooking, a big bag will wilt down to about 1/4 its previous size and it takes on the sweet fatty flavor of the chicken broth. it tasts AMAZING, i dont like it raw or plain, but in the soup it adds flavor, color and vitamins. you can just toss it in any soup as well, even bean soup and it will be very sweet and take on the flavor of whatever else is in the soup. if youv tried the olive garden zuppa tosacana soup it is identicle in flavor, the greens anyway.

Sadly for me, I like just about any kind of food. The only exception for me is asparagus. I can't tolerate the taste or consistancy, even the sight of it (or a picture of it) turns my stomach. Weird I guess since my favorite food is brussels sprouts.

Has anyone tried Kefir (effervescent, or 'flat'?) - I've tired it alone, in smoothies, as part of baking... I just can't seem to get behind it; too gloopy to be milk-like, too runny to be yogurt. Too bad, it's chock full of great probiotics!

I love spaghetti squash, but it is definitely a different texture than regular noodles. So, if you love pasta more than the sauce, this may not be a good substitute for you, but I encourage you to try it (my kiddos even like it). It does take some time to cook in the oven, so I usually cook it the night before I plan on using it. I recently saw a post somewhere about using the crock pot to cook it, so I plan on trying that out next time!

Hemp powder. I am vegetarian and lean toward vegan so I am always looking for yet another variation of protein I can eat quickly. I dislike most protein powders in general but hemp powder is at the top of the list of most useless. I have yet to find a way to hide the texture. In general, if I buy something to try I will finish it if it doesn't make me ill (so the rice protein powder I bought I did eventually finish) but this container of hemp powder is probably going to go bad before I can use it up. BLECH!

I make speghetti sqash in the microwave in 9min....cut it inhalf and wrap in saran wrap a poke a few holes in the top with a fork and then micrwave for 9 min and then remove saran wrap ( be careful because it will be
very hot ) take a fork and sccrape the sides and the speghetti will just peel off then I usually put a llittle salt
andpepper and grated parmesan cheese and you can eat it like that and its good or you can add speghetti sauce and its fabulous and a lots less calories than real speghettti noodles.

When I make cauliflower rice, I saute it in a little coconut oil after pulsing it in the food processor. You can add salt and pepper or other seasonings then, too. It is not meant to be raw. That said, it is like rice in texture but not in taste.

We use kale in all our soups... (actually we put kale and spinach in all). Just another way to add, besides salads.

Vegemite. My apologies to those who like this, but gag reflex takes over when I try eating it, even with toast. Though the smell would remind me of sourdough starter or freshly baked bread, the taste would range from burnt rice to beef stock gone bad. Too bad, it's rich in B vitamins and not all foods are packed with these.
