Basmati rice help

I was trying to work out how many calories was in 60 grams of dried basmati rice (Tesco's brand) but when i scanned the app every brand of basmati rice has a completely different calorie result I'm really confused nothing matched my packet in hand and the generic cooked basmati of 220grams also doesn't match calories in any of the other branded at the same weight.  Fitbit also doesn't tell you if it's the raw calories or cooked calories for half the brand's on there. I hope this makes sense.

I was curious about the calories because I'm eating basmati rice, too. Tesco's basmati rice according to their website is 359 kcal per 235 grams of rice.

That comes out to about 92 kcal for 60 grams of rice. Let me just say I'm not a great math guy but this might give you an idea of how many calories.

Yes I worked out the calories via the packet but compared to the apps standered cooked basmati rice which says 235g of cooked rice is 284 calories which compared to what we both saw for Tesco's for 235g cooked rice I don't understand how the difference is so huge.

I see what you mean and I have no clue why the difference. I just use the
add a food for instances like this. You can input the nutritional value,
brand, and serving size and it'll be added to your food database. Take care

Hey cheekymonkey, I just looked at Fitbits calories for Uncle Ben's basmati rice, it says 150 cal. per 1/4 cup. I Googled Uncle Ben's basmati rice and it says 220 cal. per cup. Oops. Looks like Fitbits data is a bit skewed for the rice. Have a great day.

if there is nutritional info on the package, use that always. There is a difference in how things are preserved so the most accurate info is from the manufacturer. I agree to just add the info for your meal. You always want to start raw with your calories. If you are adding things you want to add them as their own packaged calorie info. For example, a cup of fat free broth is 5 calories. If you cook your rice in that instead of water, add the calories to your total for the portion you made.
