I've been gradually incorporating IF (Intermittent Fasting) into my LCHF regimen. It's not a pure fast..I have at least one 'bullet coffee' ( eg wellnessmama.com/5673/healthy-coffee/ ) on those days. Broth is also ok.
One thing that keeps popping up on the web is 'bone broth' (maybe to appeal to the Paleo crowd..I dunno). Anyway, I have zero interest in making, consuming, or discussing bone broth. So far in my experience it's one of those things that draws ridicule if anything 🙂
So I 'invented' Hot and Sour Soup broth to drink during IF..worked out great!
2 c Chicken Stock (I use NSA from a tetra pack)
2 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar
1/2 tsp Hot Sauce
1/2 tsp Low Salt Soy Sauce
2 drops Truffle Oil (gives off a sheetake aroma..won't let me say the real name lol)
These are all low-ball amounts..add whatever to taste.
40 cals, 4 net C, 275 sodium, no problem

@OCDOCJust call it something else that sounds more appealing, like "meat soup". The meat soup I make doesn't sound that different.

Ladies and Gentlemen; we have converted @OCDOC!
I don't recommend to use the fat because it doesn't carry much flavor and it's a bit too rich (tastes really oily) for regular meals; however, you can use the bone broth as a base to cook veggies (see below), make a sauce, hidrate a risotto or add some liquid on a crockpot recipe.
I'm sure you and your wife will love the broth like this: boiled veggies (carrots, small potatoes, squash, even chayote all boiled in the stock), chopped red or yellow onions, chopped cilantro, plain white rice and a squeeze of lemon juice (that's how I eat it though)

Oh you must try bone broth! It's one of those things to cross off a bucket list. I presume cooked bone marrow is also off the list? Not even an Anthony Bourdain recipe.
Now I'll try to find some truffle oil, I ate it before with some french fries (no joke!)

@HelenaFitbit That Bourdain recipe looks good 🙂
The issue with bone broth can be illustrated by the 2 conversations below:
1) Irritating co-worker: "What are you drinking there?"
You: "Home-made hot and sour soup."
Irritating co-worker: "Yum..smells delish!"
2) Irritating co-worker: "What are you drinking there?"
You: "Bone broth."
Irritating co-worker: "Bone broth?!! HAHAHA! I thought you might be a nutjob, but now I know it! Hey everybody! Hedley here is drinking BONE BROTH!! HAHAHA...yeah...what a weirdo!"
However, I respect your opinion Helena, and will prepare a bone broth recipe of your choosing. I will try it and give an honest opinion re prep aggravation level, taste, and workplace taunting.
I look forward to the recipe; I am serious that I will try it!
Best! Rob 🙂

Oh I've been there @OCDOC!
I usually get weird looks whenever I open my lunchbox; since I usually make Bento Boxes. The weirdest thing (up until last month) I cooked up was an egg and Beef Soboro in a bento box (recipe here)with some smoked chipotle mayonnaise. (not my videos of course, but I took the concept from them)
So yeah, it's always an odd sight, but I say: In a land of sandwiches, be a bento.

Oh.... I thought it was like that old 'Twilight Zone' episode where those big-head aliens land and are all helpful and stuff. They even have a book that an expert started to translate.. "To Serve Man" it was titled. A bunch of humans get on a spaceship to visit the alien planet and then find out too late that it's a cookbook!
Anyway, I'm glad I don't have to prepare a dog (or human). Will try again 🙂 R

I'm using my 2 days off to try the bone broth. Put it together last evening, and set it to simmer (they say 24 hours+ is best).
However, my wife went to the kitchen after bedtime and turned it off (assuming I left it on by accident). So instead of having a 24-hour result today, I guess it will have to wait until tomorrow. Smells ok, although my wife's first comment yesterday was 'What the he!! are you messing with now??' When I said 'bone broth' she looked at me for a few seconds, gave a little eye roll, then turned and walked away.
So far so good 🙂

@betpchem@Lily-Mari@HelenaFitbit
Okay I surrender..it's awesome. Used a large turkey baster to siphon out a good serving (huge layer of fat on top..is this something I can use?), will refill pot with water and see if it 'restores'. I read to try that somewhere..called 'Eternal Soup' or something.
Easy to make, house smells like a French kitchen.
At work I'll just say 'home-made soup' if I get asked.
I retract my 'blecchh'...not sure how often I will make it, but it is a treat. Thx to all! 🙂 Rob K

No, it's not that (but your link is interesting). When I was browsing through bone broth pages somebody said that you can leave it on simmer 'forever', simply drawing off what you want and replenishing the water. I imagine after a while you pretty much tap it out, but I topped it off yesterday (maybe 1.5 cups), left it on overnight, and it still tastes good 🙂
I work all weekend, so I will drain and take it all with me, but next time I will experiment to see how long I can keep one pot going. Best! R
