Budget Meals

My partner and I are don't have too much money and would like some tasty meals at a low price. We love eating pizza, currys, fishcakes, etc but currently buying ready made meals, which are costing a fortune. We love trying new food but unlike me, my partner is fairly fussy when it comes to what we eat, he doesn't cheese (crazy, right?).

Can anyone help? Willing to try new recipes 🙂

Reading your post I am unsure what kind of help you are asking for. Do you want to understand what is more cheap versus more expensive to cut expenses or are you looking for easy to make meals? Or are you looking for recipes without certain ingredients?

@Ilbacio if you like pizza why don't you make it? Homemade, it's quite cheap to make pizza with whatever ingredients you wish to have on it 🙂 I cook sometimes pizza just for lunch ( express version, with self-raising flour, so no need to wait for the dough to rise, as I have only 1hr for lunch 😄 ). I think the problem here is in "ready meals". This never comes cheap ( not mentioning that pretty never comes healthy ). I reduced my expenses by cooking my meals ( with occasional exceptions ) and making sure I buy the right amount of ingredients, so I don't waste almost any food. What helps with the budget is learning to cook using only what you can find in your fridge. It's like a puzzle but sometimes the result is stunning. This is how I made a romanesco broccoli and green lentils with chopped swede creamy soup 😉 I just had those ingredients in the fridge. However, if anyone of you is picky about food it's going to be hard to go cheap 😉 I know something about it as my wife is hard at convincing to try certain foods ( and she doesn't eat eggs which makes things even harder ). We end up often cooking two different meals. Also, if you cook, then don't cook more than you need. This leads to food waste and food waste is money waste. The key is that you have to switch to cooking own food rather than eating out or buying ready meals. Raw ingredients can be put together in multiple configurations. Single ingredients may be used in a few meals. As for recipes, I simply google for those, which contain at least partially ingredients I currently have at home. If I like the recipe I'm missing any ingredients then this is where things require getting little more creative 😉 My grocery weekly is between 25-50 pounds ( usually nearer the lower band ). I eat healthy ( at least I try ) and not too expensive either.

Jacques Pepin has a great series - Fast Food My Way - most of it is inexpensive, they are easy recipes and they are fast.  You can see videos on youtube for free that go with the book if you want to see how to cook the food live. Most are really healthy or can be with less oil/butter.  I also like Melissa Clark and Ellie Krieger - Ellie's recipes - many can be found free on Food Network - you can just search her name on their site and their is a huge list.  I like the 3 bean chili, the miso fish, pretty much everything I've tried has been a winner.

everything you mention liking can be made at home for a fraction of the cost and way more healthy. Just search for recipes and you will get lots of different ones. Just type fish cake recipe in any search engine you like and 50 different ones will come up. Pick the one or two that fit your budget and your nutrition requirements and make them. You will have leftovers so two meals for the price of one.
