Calorie counter with Fitbit app

So I set my goal and it said I need a deficit of 1000 calories a day. So it says my max calorie/day is 430- that's before I exercise or anything. That can't be right, can it? How do I fix that?

How much do you want to lose and what is your current weight? The less weight you have to lose the smaller the calories deficit would be you do it at. If you only have a small amount to lose a 500 or 250 calories deficit is the right way to go. Yes it will take longer, but that is what happens when you get close to your goal.

If this is not the case for you then please provide us with some more information so that we can try to answer your question better.

@LeahOrchard- as already asked you need to look at how much weight you have to lose (and how much movement you want to do).  I burn ~1728 calories a day doing nothing (my BMR) so if I set my deficit to the hardest (-1000) and lay in bed all day I could only eat 728 calories.  Because I have my food settings on sedentary when I get up in the morning it would show that 728 as what I could eat.  As I move around more that number will increase.

Tonight for example I've done more than 10,000 steps, a strength training routine and I'm up to 1916 calories for the day.  Before you start logging you might want to see how many calories are left at the end of the day (ie. before you go to bed) - this would be a general number you could aim for.  Although as already said, if you don't have a lot to lose then a smaller deficit might be easier to attain.
