So I thought I'd share a simple start to the day that has served me well in the past and now that I've started loosing weight again it's still great.
1/4 or 1/3 cup oatmeal (uncooked/dry)
2 egg whites
Combine the two in a bowl, heat a pan to med and spray with pam or other non-stick spray. Cook for about 90 seconds on each side.
While simple and bland this really helps me to re-set my start of the day. The oats serve as long-lasting energy and the egg whites are protein needed after the morning in the gym. If you want to add flavor try putting in peanut butter (2 tbsp) or cinnamon & sugar.

Savory porridge is a thing right now -- I have seen articles about it the New York Times food section, and the Wall Street Journal:

Porridge can be made with oats, rice, or other grains like bulgur and cornmeal. Haven't tried it yet but I have some congee plans.

I make mine with old fashioned oats, egg whites, unsweetened cocoa powder, ground flaxseed, peppermint extract and a little bit of mashed banana and real maple syrup to make mint chocolate oatmeal.
I can't do bland. My food is always flavourful and unique.

I like to add egg whites to my old fashioned oats. I cook the oats as recommended on the package, and when they are almost done, I add in the egg whites. I like to top that with fruit.
