Fish recipes? Picky eater!

So, for life, I've always been a picky eater. I am slowly making the transition to a (mostly) paleo diet, and I'm working on expanding my tastes at the same time. I haven't had fish for years (didn't like any the last time I tried it, about ten years ago), but I want to give it another go, as I know my tastes are changing. So what I need are people's best recipes for the following types of fish so I can experiment over the course of a week and see if I like it. The types I have access to at my local grocery store:
-tilapia
-blue cod
-sole
-haddock

Thanks all!

One of my favorite ways to prepare tilapia is to mince up some chili or jalapeno peppers and shallots. Mix the shallots/peppers with a squeeze of lime juice and butter (or coconut fat if you are avoiding butter). Work it into a spread and smear on top of the fillets before cooking. The butter/fat will melt away and leave the shallot/pepper mix on top.

I eat talapia at least once a week and all I do is put in baking dish cat with olive oil on both sides and i season with Morton Nature's Season blend and paprika then bake for about 20 mins at 375. Simple but tastey to me and the hubs.

McCormack has a spice pack for tilapia that is just delicous. And I don't like fish either.

This isn't one of the fish you mentioned, but my other go to fish recipe is this one for salmon in Puff Pastry:

I didn't like fish but I found a delicious and simple recipe.

1 Tilapia

2 bay leaves.

oregano

lemon juice

salt and pepper.

On a piece of foil put the Tilapia and all the ingredients together, cover everything and put it on the grill for 5 minutes each side. Simply delicious!

I LOVE doing baked salmon in foil...fresh squeezed lemon juice with some dijon mustard and garlic mixed together and spread over the top, topped with lemon slices ... makes a very moist and delicious fish. I imagine this would work for the fish you mentioned.

@Maithuna- some of the fish on your list are more oily and fishy than a new to fish person may find yummy. I would talk to your fish counter person about which ones are more suited for you. Talapia is one of the mildest so you should start with that. Haddock is primarily used in breaded or tempura recipes so if weight loss is a consideration you may want to skip that one. you can for sure prepare it other ways, but I don't know if it will be as tasty. the other one is salmon. easiest to cook and eat. flounder too.

I'm a picky eater too @Maithuna! I absolutely detest the smell of fish, and I've tried eating it in many variations. Smiley Sad

@HelenaFitbit Have you tried seared tuna? My new favorite - and it doesn't taste fishy at all. I've made it myself and also the one they sell at Outback Steakhouse is delicious (and it's in the appetizer menu, so the portion is small.)

I just had the best salmon dinner ever and I had to share. It was based off of this recipe: http://www.health.com/health/recipe/0,,10000000521971,00.html

I cooked the fish in a little bit of oil, 4 minutes or so on a side. Meanwhile I mixed Harry and David's Charred Pineapple Relish (my new favorite thing) with a shallot, some rice wine vinegar and cilantro. After the salmon was cooked, I served it with the relish. So delicious!

Best secret ever! En Papilotte. Take about a 12 x 15 sheet of parchment paper, fold in half, a touch of olive oil on one half, layer some veggies, onion, and a piece of fish (cod, flounder tilapia - any flaky fish - thicker piece rather than long skinny fillets) squeeze of lemon juice, salt, pepper, dried or fresh thyme, touch of red pepper if you like spice on the one side. Fold over 3 times on long side (I rub the back side of a spoon to crease hard), and then do the same on the top and bottom. Make one for each person you are serving. Great project for kids to help with as well.

Put on a baking sheet, pop into @ 400-425 degree oven for about 10 minutes or so until the parchment envelope puffs up like a puff pastry and starts to turn brown, also you should be able to smell the fish. It's easy and make a fun presentation. The fish is juicy and tender and the veggies are out of this world. When you open the "package" on your plate, the aroma is fabulous. Best of all, no messy dishes to clean!

Thanks for the fish recipe in parchment paper.  I cook cod and salmon with this method all the time.  It's great when camping also.  I have a problem keeping the paper folded so I have started stapeling the ends together.

Marinade Salmon in soy, ginger, honey (or agave) and some garlic; toss in the oven for 20 min on 400 and serve over brown rice with some brocoli ( we prefere baby broc) and you have an amazingly tasty dinner. Enjoy!

I just did a new salmon recipe cooked in foil with "firecracker sauce". I used Frank's Red Hot Sauce and this recipe: http://littlespicejar.com/firecracker-baked-salmon-in-foil/. I recommend it if you like spice.

If you are a picky eater already and didn't like fish last time. I would not even advise you to use a recipe.

Try to prepare the fish as you want to ! For example, fry it, use some vegetables you think that would suit the meal and some sauces that you think would suit.

Hey @Maithuna I think that one of the fastest ways to cook a delicious fish is some lemon juice,  olive oil and your favorite spices, you just do a wrap in foil and put it into the oven.

Easy, delicious and healthy! Heart

I hate fish too @Maithuna but i found this ready great fish taco recipe. It is fried tilapia in a lime and mayonnaise chili powder sauce.

2lb Tilapia
2 Limes
1 Tbsp Chili powder
2 cup Mayonnaise
??Flour

So you make the lime sauce put some in a bowl and save it for later and then use the rest of it to pour over the diced up tilapia and and flour. Then fry it in light olive oil and voila it's made. I recommend it with with the Tostitos lime chips and with the what ever you put on your normal tacos with the leftover lime sauce. I hope you like it!!!! 😀
