Does anyone here have any experience/feedback on the low carb/high fat/grain free program a la Dr. Perlmutter?
I've been doing fine in losing weight - I don't have a ton to lose - by eliminating 95% or more of my red meat intake, eating healthier all around (more fruits, veggies) and exercise, mostly walking. So I'm not particularly interested in accelerating my weight loss, but more focusing on overall health and fitness, with an emphasis on brain health.
This program sounds good, but so do a lot of nutrition programs out there - and in many ways, it's certainly counter to what I've been doing lately that seems to be working for me. But Perlmutter makes some pretty compelling points, backed up by a lot of research. Just looking for some real world experiences to consider in the mix. Thanks!

I've been doing LCHF for about 2 years now and will never look back. i'm not specifically following Perlmutter's plan, but just using the general concepts of lchf. when i first started, i wanted to be in ketosis, so i kept my carbs very low. after abut a year, i shed the 100+ lbs i needed to shed and upped my carbs a bit (maybe 30-50g per day... pretty much all from veggies). for the last year, i've easily maintained the weight loss.
i think one downfall when people try to do lchf is they think they can eat all the meat they want. that's not necessarily the case. too much protein can throw you off track as well. my current ratios are 60-65% fat, 30% protein, 5-10% carbs. it works for me. i have steady energy through the day without having to eat every couple hours.
i do allow myself the occasional treat of cake or something. but, my craving for those foods has severely dwindled and 4-5 times a year is usually plenty. and, when i do partake, since i don't feel deprived, i don't feel the need to eat a giant piece.
nutrition programs - find one that works for you and modify it to your needs. i'm sure someone may come in here and say lchf is detrimental to you. and they may be right. it might not be the right fit for your body. then again, it might. only one way to find out.
