I agree it would be much more helpful and not so time consuming if there were Australian brands and foods on here

Hi, I have the My Fitness Pal app on my phone, it is free and find it has alot of Aussie foods, as well as a barcode reader so if its not in there or you just want to quickly put it in you scan the bar code and it comes up with all the breakdown of most foods. also you can put in your own recipes one ingredient at a time and it works out the breakdown of the recipe too..... hope this helps

I would suggest posting a product feature request for this:

If fitbit can't give us an Australian Food List then at least facilitate in allowing us to enter our food items with more information than just the calories, I would like to also be able to add protein, carbs, fats and sodium. So that the reports from fitbit are accurate on all aspects of my diet tracking.

Hi Power1 you can add that information by clicking the "add nutritional information" button when you create you own food entry.
It is frustrating though to have to do it for every new food log. I am also finding that the American versions of foods/brands we have in Australia seem to have a lot more added sodium/sugar which was really skewing my results for the first couple of weeks until I realised what was happening. So I have found myself editing the nutritional content on those as well so that my stats are more realistic.
This of course would be mitigated if they just included an Australian database!

Hi Jogger thanks for that I should have looked a bit further hey!!! New to this fitbit stuff this year and really want it to work well for me. I was ill all of last year and gained 12 kgs that I want to shift hopefully by my baby boy's 21st birthday this January. Feeling motivated and healthy, so I guess that is a real good start for 2014.

I agree - Australian listing of foods would work really well for Aussies

I use the website caloreking.com.au and just add custom foods to Fitbit. I find it more reliable than MFP which seems to be user-maintained whereas Calorie King adds the data based on actual nutritional labels. It would be amazing if Fitbit could somehow connect to that database!

I have discovered the calorieking website also. It's really good because you can choose how the ingredient is measured and the stats change accordingly. I also recently discovered that SOME foods(casserole mix is where I found it) sold in Australia have the nutritional information listed for a complete meal (based on their recommended list of ingredients) - per serve! I wish ALL packaged foods/bases had this info. That's not a "Fitbit issue" though, just something interesting..
I am spending quite a bit of time adding every new ingredient/meal to my list, but I am also fairly new to the whole food tracking thing, and I am hoping that time will see most of the items I eat regularly have been added to my list and then I can get on with actually enjoying what I am eating. An Australian database would certainly make the process much less time-consuming.

I agree with using myfitness pal too.
It has ALL foods in it, there has been nothing that I have scanned (app has barcode scanner) that it does not recognise - its free & its awesome. It automatically syncs to the fitbit dashboard too. (and there's a fit bit forum on MFP too)

I agree Calorie King is good what would be better though is if you dont need to manually add to the Fit Bit System.
Calorie King should integrate with Fit Bit

How close has fitbit come to doing an Australian food list. If the fit bit app was able to link with My fitness pal or current apps around for the food list, perhaps that would be easier that is a thought?? I am burning a lot of energy and it would be nice to get an acurate picture of any modificiations I need to make on a daily basis to keep the body running with my hectic lifestyle

Hey there @natashamjyoung ! I recommend to link your Fitbit Profile to MyFitnessPal which has users all over the world and a huge database, including barcode scanner and recipe builder.
They are supported both through a computer as well as through most Smartphones. You can get more information on this page.
